Jim Moltzan has devoted nearly 45 years to the study and practice of holistic fitness, martial arts, and human development. His journey began at
age 16 and has continued through decades of training, teaching, and creative work as an author and illustrator. While attending school and working multiple jobs, he pursued further instruction in martial arts and other methods of physical and mental cultivation. After moving from the Midwest to Florida, he fulfilled a lifelong goal by opening two wellness and martial arts schools, achievements that far exceeded what he once believed possible. In time, he chose to step away from managing schools to return to his true passion: teaching, training, and sharing knowledge through his books and graphical artwork. Beyond his professional path, Jim is a husband and father of two grown children who believes that good health must be earned through consistent effort, sacrifice, and self-discipline. “We must work hard mentally, physically, and financially,” he says, “not only for ourselves but for our families.”
In his later 50s, Jim returned to college to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in Holistic Health, studying anatomy and physiology, meditation, nutrition, herbology, and diverse medical traditions such as Allopathic, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, Naturopathy, Chiropractic, and other complementary systems. His books are comprehensive, deeply researched, and richly illustrated. Each volume integrates over four decades of firsthand experience with original artwork, blending practical instruction, scientific insight, and classical wisdom. Printed in full color, they provide both beginners and serious practitioners with authentic study materials that emphasize quality, clarity, and integrity over mass-market simplicity. Jim’s personal practice draws primarily from Chinese martial arts and internal systems of energy cultivation. His Qigong (breath and energy work) training stems from both Chinese Kung Fu and the Korean Dong Han medical Qigong lineage. Over many years he has studied with masters and teachers of Traditional Chinese Medicine, learning techniques of acupressure, moxibustion, and herbal preparation for conditioning and recovery. For more than two decades, he has trained and collaborated with Zen Wellness, earning recognition as a “Gold Coin Master Instructor” for surpassing 10,000 hours of teaching and practice. His foundation includes Tai Chi, Baguazhang, Dao Yin, and Ship Pal Gi (Korean Kung Fu and weapons training) systems that cultivate physical vitality, mental focus, and spiritual awareness. Jim’s philosophy honors the universal truths within all disciplines: that body, mind, and spirit are inseparable; that physical movement refines the intellect and heart; and that mastery begins with integrity. Though his early experiences arose within a closed and highly traditional lineage, his present work seeks to interpret and expand those lessons for modern practitioners. His writings reflect gratitude for the past and commitment to personal evolution rather than preservation of any single system. Through disciplined training, individuals can discover their strengths and weaknesses, refine both, and uncover their full potential. In Jim Moltzan’s view, the path of the martial artist and of the whole human being, is a lifelong journey toward balance, wisdom, and self-realization. Credentials include:
