Dragonfly Farms is a collaborated group of farms in North Central Florida and South Georgia. Hello and welcome to Dragonfly Farms.

Our goal is to introduce the performance side of our breed to the local population and help you find your match. If you're not committed to owning a horse just yet we can set you up in an affordable lease or lesson program. We specialize in Arabian horses but have contacts in all breeds of horse. We are managed by a group of Arabian Horse professionals who have generations of experience in the hor

se industry and we'd love to have the opportunity to share our knowledge base with you. We have two locations, in Suwannee county (FL), to serve you. I read a disheartening post yesterday about a Tevis horse.

Disheartening because of the language used.

The horse was "well bred". Those of us who know how to read papers, because papers and selective breeding are important, knew that the horse in front of us would have a propensity to be a lil hot.

The breeder probably knew this too. Assuming the horse was bred that way on purpose, that breeder had faith in YOU to be able to buy that horse and do something with it.

Yes. You.

You didn't show up.

Life happened and the breeder took the horse to the sale.

The blurb said the breeder "carelessly discarded the horse".

Nope, the breeder is in the business of breeding. They produced a nice male horse who would not forward their dreams of breeding so they culled them by selling them.

If you dig down deep in your tiny little mushy brain you'll realize that horse was pulled out of the sale by an experienced horseman who, in turn, did exactly what that breeder hoped they would do.

Let's change the narrative.

Selling horses isn't a punishment for that horse. There is a great chance that horse is your next new best friend and will carry you to many personal victories, in your backyard or in "the show pen".

By speaking bad about breeders you're the one implementing some sort of punishment on the horse.

Life is short. Buy the horse and do the things.

Since I've been able to do a few test runs with my new to me truck, I want to officially give a shout out to these guys.

TLC put the bed on and did a little diagnostic work.

Anarchy came down from the Carolinas to tune us up and run some programing.

They work out of the same shop here in north central FL. (Mayo) They were professional and worked very quickly.

TLC actually helped us track down an odd sized trailer axel a few years ago. If I'm not mistaken, around the time of the lock downs. They do a lot of fabrication in house.

I'm half way considering letting them tear down my old black stock trailer so I can carry my wagonette and pulling horse(s) to wagon trains.

There are a lot of conversations about revitalizing the horse industry. A lot of us feel like there is too much emphasis on horse shows and that the trainers/ owners/ breeders who seem to have a following never hear those of us who work tirelessly in the trenches with kids and amateur owners.

(I'm posting SS of a recent conversation on a public chat. You can use the Facebook search bar to view the entire conversation if you need more context or what to read the article. In no way were my comments meant as an attack. )

I hate to keep saying it but I have to repeat it for new followers and those who forget; I grew up in the industry. I was there in the 80s. And by there, I mean I was in Scottsdale. But also, my family owned a riding stable in the Midwest where we bought horses from the auction and tried to give them a chance to become productive citizens.

I always kept one foot and one eye on the Arabian horse industry even though I was growing and maturing in other endeavors.

I've campaigned and showed multiple Arabian stallions including my own. I've worked as a show groom and barn manager for multiple barns.

I'm not jaded per say. I just see beyond the smoke and mirrors.

I highly respect each barn's goals and I am the biggest cheerleader for ANYONE enjoying their horse on their terms. I don't pay your bills. My opinion on your processes doesn't matter. I'm happy to discuss them though.

The thing that gets me worked up is we keep saying the same thing and getting nowhere. And then the people who love and follow us, blindly post "our opinions as fact", often lacking critical thinking skills.

Often, I feel like there's no way that people can believe half the things they post. But I've been on the internet long enough to see this strange revolution from "believe half of what you hear and all of what you see" to people now falling for AI posts and being presented with tangible facts but saying "it's not real".

You thought the horse industry was in trouble before? I'm afraid it's sn*******ng to something much more than trouble now.

What can we do?

Stick together.

Hold dear to one another.

Encourage your fellow rider.

Be a safe space for someone to vent.

Offer support and suggestions as warranted.

If you see someone having a hard time do what you can to ease the burden.

Don't let others fail because you think it makes you look good.

If the "theys" won't listen, cling to your tribe. There's room for all of us.

I'm in no way complaining. I'm simply stating a fact. This is just a snapshot of the past 2 weeks.

4 trailer tires: $1000+
21 Coggins: $1000+
3 tires on the truck: $300/per tire

We're not going to discuss purchasing the truck, a bed for the truck and the delete kit. Those were my choice. 😅

We're not going to discuss our well going out ....

Or the brake job and bearings that Beaudine required after separate tows of truck and trailer w/horses from Macon. 😅

Can we say the heavy lifting part of the year is over maybe?

Reconnecting with an old friend, Magic came up. She was one of the mares I brought to Florida with me. She was basically abandoned at our family farm. When I moved my stallion down the road I took her with me and then eventually placed her with the family who was moving to Florida with us.

Magic was originally from Sugar Legacy.

If you know, you know. 😆 "Dana Montana" owned exotic pets and an exotic dancer joint called The Sugar Shack. She'd show up to rated Arabian horse shows with two standard poodles who were usually died pink and blue.

I adored Magic but, like every horse in the barn, she was a bad bad cribber. The habit finally killed her around 2010.

For everything she went thru, she was a sweet mare and fun to ride.

We had bred her to SOHO Carol but she didn't take.

This is Daisy If Ya Do, "Daisy". She is Galena's full sister, one year younger. They have a "grade" Percheron dam and a foundation Appaloosa sire.

Daisy lives at Quail Crossing Stables (Leesburg GA) and helps Kim with lessons in a body positive setting for adult amateur riders.

Daisy has been ground driven and has pulled a tire but she has never been officially driven.

Daisy is Unbeetable Feeds #1 fan!

A Message to Prospective Horse Buyers
If you’re out there looking for your next show horse, futurity prospect, or future producer… I want to talk to you for a moment.

Because somewhere out there right now, a small breeder is standing in a quiet barn, brushing a mare they’ve owned for years — a mare they know better than most people know their own family. They know her quirks, her strengths, her heart. They know what she produces. They know what crosses work. They’ve studied her pedigree, her foals, her consistency.
And they’ve bred her with intention — not hype.

• They aren’t corporations.
• They aren’t trainers.
• They aren’t marketing machines.
• They aren’t sitting behind big-name banners and budgets.
• They’re ordinary people.

I can name 10+ small breeders who have produced World and Congress Champions. Champions born in humble barns. Champions raised by people who never asked for applause — just a fair chance.

So before you write that check …… Before you pay the commissions, the markups, the finder’s fees… Before you assume the “big boys” are the only ones who raise winners…

Look toward the small barns. Look toward the people who do this for love, not for glory. Look toward the breeders who keep this industry alive, one foal at a time.
