How was your summer holiday? And how did you feel about going back to work? For many, jumping back into work after a holiday can be a challenge. That post-vacation overwhelm is real, but mindfulness practices can make a world of difference.

Did you know that regular meditation can boost your ability to handle stress, sharpen your focus and creativity, and improve your decision-making?

And the best part?
You don’t need to practice for hours 🧘 to see the benefits.

In his article (link in comments) Michael Watkins shares simple micro-mindfulness techniques that you can easily weave into your busy day:

🌬️ Three deep breaths
👁️ Sensory check-in: what can you perceive through your 5 senses?
🧍🏻‍♀️ Body scan
1️⃣ Mindful minute
🚶🏻‍♀️ Mindful walking in between meetings
❤️ Gratitude pause
🥗 Mindful lunch

In September I’m committing to 🌬️and ❤️.
Which one or two micro-mindfulness techniques do you want to focus on?

Drop your chosen emoji in the comments.
I’d love to see!

No one 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴 a coach. Coaching is a choice to take your career and life to the next level. I’ve experienced it myself.

When we moved abroad in 2015, I left behind a full-time job as a healthcare manager. A role I loved, but the desire for adventure won 🌍 .

Although I was extremely busy managing the logistics of settling in a new country with two young children, I felt unfulfilled. I missed the professional challenges and independence that my career had provided.

When someone suggested to speak with a career coach, my initial reaction was, “why? I should be able to figure this out on my own.” But the idea stayed with me, especially as I began to feel even more ‘stuck’ 🤦🏻‍♀️.

Eventually, I decided to give coaching a try, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It inspired me to think outside the box, explore new possibilities 🔍, and take bold steps forward.

This journey led me down a path I never would have considered back in the Netherlands. I retrained as an internationally certified coach, I specialized in career and leadership coaching, and founded my own business, ‘she does it’.

Today, I still love what I do. Supporting (mostly) female leaders in creating the work life they aspire to, and helping organizations to create environments where both women and men can truly thrive 🌟.

Throughout the years, I’ve continued to work with coaches, and this September, I’m excited to start working again with one of the best, Ronnie Clifford. I’m eager to be challenged by her once more 🔥 and take both myself and my business to the next level.

So, what about you?

Last week, I shared this quote with a few clients who were hindered by their limiting beliefs in different ways:

𝟭. 𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁:
😧 My client felt overwhelmed by the size of it and said, “I need to think about it because I’m not sure if I have the right experience.”

𝟮. 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁:
😰 She felt nervous and mentioned, “I don’t dare to ask my questions because I fear their judgment about me.”

𝟯. 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗲-𝗼𝗻-𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀, 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀:
😖 She felt frustrated but avoided bringing it up. She said, “I’m afraid it will impact our relationship.”

𝟰. 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁:
😓 My client felt stressed because she often corrected them herself rather than addressing the problem with the responsible team. She said, “I brought it up before and I don’t want to be perceived as difficult.”

When you face a challenging situation, limiting beliefs often come in.

It’s important to realize that everyone has them. Even the most successful leaders in the world. However, they know how to manage them effectively.

And so can you.
Because you can train your brain 🧠.

The ‘space’ that Frankl refers to in his quote is the critical moment of awareness ⏳ where you can recognize your limiting belief before reacting.
In that space, you have the power to choose whether to let '𝘓𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘔𝘪𝘴𝘴 𝘊𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘤' dictate your response or to reframe the limiting belief 🔄.

This choice allows you to align with your authentic self (your values, purpose, career goals etc.), which leads to personal growth 🚀 and fulfillment ❤️.

So, my clients did the work 💪 and challenged their beliefs:
𝟭 “𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝗺𝘆 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀. 𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱.”

𝟮. “𝗔𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆. 𝗠𝘆 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺.”

𝟯. “𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗯𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.”

𝟰. “𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀.”

Which limiting belief is holding you back? How can you reframe it?

Have fun!

Last month, I had one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. My daughter’s year group was focusing on the theme ‘Stand Up for Your Rights,’ and I was invited to speak to a class of 10-year-olds about women’s rights and my company, She does it.

We began with a video that painfully illustrates how gender stereotypes are ingrained from a very young age. (Link to the video in the comments).

We then explored the contributions of activists like Emmeline Pankhurst, Malala Yousafzai, and men like the mayor of London Sadiq Khan in the fight for gender equality.

The discussion naturally flowed to their own experiences and what gender equality looks like in their classroom.
It was touching to see how involved everyone was in the discussion and how honest they were about their experiences.

One boy shared that he wished more girls would join the football games during break time. A girl quickly responded, “I’d love to join, but the few times I did, I never got the ball. It wasn’t fun at all.”
This exchange beautifully highlighted the difference between diversity and inclusion.

We wrapped up by talking about what to do when you feel treated unfairly. The consensus was clear: speakup, and if you’re afraid, ask a friend to help you.
Children are our best mirrors!

I loved the session with the children and was humbled by the words of the teacher, who called me a women’s rights activist.

But, the most meaningful feedback came from my daughter.

When I asked her what she thought, she said:
“Mum, you did really well. I’m proud of you being my mum. But next time, add some games. Kids love games, mum.”

I couldn’t be prouder ❤️.

This picture is me at the emergency department last week.
I twisted my knee during my first hockey training session in almost 20 years. The MRI confirmed my worst fear: a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament.

But, this post isn’t about my knee injury.
It’s about a special moment that left a lasting impression on me.

Hobbling from the parking deck to the emergency department, with my husband parking the car, a man exited the hospital. He was clearly in a hurry and busy on his phone.

Despite his rush, he stopped and asked, “Shall I get you a wheelchair?"
My initial reaction, influenced by my strong sense of independence, was to decline, but he insisted, “It looks like you’re in a lot of pain. I’ll get you a wheelchair.”

When I sat down, I felt emotional. Not from the pain in my knee, but from the kindness this stranger showed. He truly saw me and understood what I needed in that moment.

While the staff at University Hospital Leuven provided exceptional care, this man's kindness and compassion truly stood out to me.

This experience was a powerful reminder for me of what great leaders do. They see their people, show empathy and act with compassion.
It's not just about the responsibilities they handle, but more importantly, about how they make others feel.

Have you ever experienced a moment of unexpected kindness that made a big impact on you?

Have a wonderful weekend!

What would happen if you used the energy you currently spend doubting yourself 🤯 to drive change with your excellence💎?

Many of us are taught to focus on our ‘opportunities for improvement’, rather than our strengths.

Human psychology is paradoxical: we remember criticism but respond better to praise.

⚠️ Negative feedback makes you defensive and less likely to change, while 👍 positive feedback boosts your confidence, performance, happiness and intrinsic motivation. Focusing on your strengths also gives you the confidence to understand and address your weaknesses better.

Check out the article "How to Play to Your Strengths" (https://hbr.org/2005/01/how-to-play-to-your-strengths).

It describes a great exercise for exploring and leveraging your strengths. I use a similar approach in my leadership coaching with clients. Give it a try, it’s fun and powerful 💪!

🚀And if you're ready for a thought-provoking and creative process to maximize your potential, I’d love to hear from you!

𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁

As a finance leader in the aviation industry, my client had navigated a male-dominated culture for many years.

She increasingly faced unconscious biases, gender pay gaps, and a lack of female role models in the workplace, which left her feeling frustrated and undervalued.

Determined to drive change, she established a women’s employee resource group.
However, when her manager kept failing to provide clear guidance on the new role she aspired to, she decided to seek opportunities outside the company.

In my latest blog I share how she landed an amazing new job by staying true to her authentic leadership style. Ironically, this was exactly the reason why an other company had rejected her.

This poem by Marianne Williamson always hits me with its power no matter how many times I’ve read it 📖✨.

I hope it inspires you as well.
With leaving the concept of god to your own interpretation.
———

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.

We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us;
It’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.
