Song Tai Chi

Song Tai Chi The word Song can be translated as "Relax".

We teach the ancient arts of Tai Chi and Qigong in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, promoting health and wellbeing and increasing our ability to cope with day to day stresses.

Lao Tzu said

The best leaders are those the people hardly know exist.
The next best is a leader who is loved and praised.
Next comes one who is feared.
The worst is the leader who is despised.

If you do not trust the people, they will become untrustworthy.

The best leaders value their words, and use them sparingly.
When the master has accomplished her task,
the people say, "Amazing":
"we did it all ourselves!"

They knew this 2500 years ago, and it is still true today.

Will it never end, if its not one thing its another, what next and on and on. Life just keeps coming and so often we just want some calm. Some peace in the noise. Rule 10 "Stillness within Motion". When your Tai Chi is going well your mind is like a river, throw in a stone and there is a splash, then the water flows around the stone, covers it and flows on, untroubled. Between action and reaction there is a moment to chose how to react. Relax, feel your feet on the ground find your balance and decide the next move. Tai Chi, its not just for when you practice

Dear Friends
In this difficult time there is much that we can gain from the principles behind Tai Chi.

Yielding.
I don't talk about it much in class, but its so important.
It doesn't mean giving way or collapsing before a force or threat. It means relaxing and controlling its advance. Using its energy to build strength in ourselves and deflecting the worst of its force into the void. So that when we return we are stronger.

Take a look at an expensive clothes hanger. It's not completely straight, its slightly curved. This is Essential number 2 of Tai Chi.

Sink the chest
and draw up
the back.

Tai Chi, its not just for when you practice, its for life.

I was fortunate to visit Jiahuashan in China today. The mountain is home to one of the most important Buddhist temples in China. It rained, a lot, as we were in the clouds. But I had the chance to practice the 8 step Yang, which we teach at Song Tai Chi, in this glorious setting.

That's how many essentials Yang Cheng Fu came up with.
10!
How do you remember all 10 when you're trying to just remember what moves next? Arms waving everywhere, brush knee or pat the thingy?
Well, when you stand still to start, just focus on one of them. Just let it sit in your head, then begin.
Begin with the end in mind.
