Hayle Runners support RNLI fundraiser at Bude Lifeboat Run

Ten members of Hayle Runners travelled north on Wednesday, June 10, to take part in the popular Bude Lifeboat Run, helping support an event that raises vital funds for the RNLI.

Now in its 17th year, the race is organised by Bude RATs (Run and Tri), a club with strong links to Bude Lifeboat through current and former crew members and their families. The event has become a firm fixture on the Cornish running calendar, raising thousands of pounds each year to support the RNLI’s lifesaving work around the coast and inland waterways.

This year’s race also formed part of several RNLI milestones, with 2026 marking the 60th anniversary of the modern Bude Inshore Lifeboat Station and the 25th anniversary of RNLI Lifeguards patrolling UK beaches.

The six-mile evening race took runners around Bude’s cycleway, canal towpath and off-road footpaths. The varied route, combined with warm weather, enthusiastic support and excellent organisation, created another memorable evening of racing.

Many runners also enjoyed watching the junior races that took place before the main event, helping create a real community atmosphere throughout the evening.

Hayle Runners were represented by seven men and three women, with Jon Eldon leading the Green Army home in 42 minutes and 49 seconds. Florence Davies-Kirsop was first Hayle lady across the line in 51:12.

There was age-category success for two Hayle members. Jon Eldon claimed first place in the Male 65-69 category, while Ian Curnow secured second place in the Male 55-59 category.

The Hayle men’s team of Jon Eldon, Andrew James, Ian Curnow and Frazer Humbles finished fifth overall in a competitive team contest.

Hayle Runners chairman Richard Collett said: “The Bude Lifeboat Run is one of those events that reminds you why local running is so special.

“The support around the course was fantastic, the marshals were brilliant and the finish-line commentary somehow managed to make every runner feel like they were arriving at the Olympic Stadium rather than the end of a six-mile race.

“It was also great to see the junior races beforehand and so many young runners getting involved. Congratulations to Jon and Ian on their age-category awards, and thank you to Bude RATs, the volunteers and everyone who helped make it such an enjoyable evening while raising money for a fantastic cause.”

Hayle Runners would like to thank Bude RATs, the marshals, volunteers and supporters for organising another successful event in aid of the RNLI.

Trevornick 10km GP race 6

It was a strong day for Hayle Runners who competed in the Trevornick 10km in beautiful sunshine, spoilt with stunning panoramic sea views.

On May 10th 58 members of the Green Army made their way to Cubert for this GP series race with outstanding performances leading to a swathe of podium placings.

Whilst part of the road race series, number six in the calendar, this spectacular course is mainly off road.

Hayle’s Sam Farmer stormed over the finish line to win the overall event, placing first male in just 35 minutes and 50 seconds. His accomplishment was matched by Emma Paull, who took silver for the ladies’ overall, coming as second female in 42 minutes and 28 seconds.

Chair of Hayle Runners, Richard Collett, said: “Trevornick 10K is always a tough race with the combination of the coastal route, rolling terrain and warm conditions, although the views
probably go appreciated a bit more after the finish line than during it. Winning the men’s team competition and finishing second in the ladies’, along with bringing home 13 age category prizes, made it another strong day in the GP season for Hayle Runners.

“Newquay Road Runners organised another excellent event and the support around the course was brilliant throughout.”

The 37 men and 21 ladies pulled out some brilliant PBs on the course. Sam Farmer won overall, with a first place ranking in the 20-24 category, in the same age group Dan Millington came third.

Liam O’Neill finished strong winning the 35-39 category, followed by Ross Rielly taking bronze.

Pete Barnes clinched third place in the 40-44 category, with Francis Malone Lee securing silver in the 40-44 age group.

There was success for Ian Curnow and Mark Williams in the 55-59 category, with a silver and bronze win respectively. And a tumble couldn’t deter Steward Townend who still secured a podium place with a bronze win in the 80+ age group.

There was success for Hayle ladies’, as Tear Rogers scooped silver in the 20-34 age group, as did Emma Paull in the 40-44 category. Charlotte Bennett (50-54 category) and Diane Warren (70-74) smashed out a gold win in their age groups.

A message from Hayle Runner, Andy Jukes…

My first ever ultra was the Classic Quarter, so it’s seems fitting my last running event is where I started, but only one leg this time not the whole lot! And in less than 2 weeks time so I suppose I’d better start training 🤪

“That’s a piece of cake” I hear you say, but unfortunately these days 5/6 miles is like running a marathon, so the now extended last leg of 12.5 miles is going to be like an ultra for me!

So why am I doing it?

I don’t want to raise money, I just want to raise awareness for Prostate cancer.
I have Metastatic Prostate Cancer which has slowed me down and is rapidly grinding me to a halt! Literally!

This could happen to any of you men out there, but if caught early it can be prevented, by just having a simple blood test. So why wouldn’t you? 10 minutes of your life could save your life.

GET TESTED, PLEASE!

So instead of sponsoring me all you have to do is share this post far and wide, help me raise awareness and save as many men’s lives as we can.

Thanks people, love you all x

Back for Boconnoc 5 - full report

The private estate of Boconnoc was home to the beautiful MTRS trail race which saw 16 Hayle Runners take part – with some amazing results.

The eight men and eight women of the Green Army travelled to Lostwithiel on May 6th to run around the stunning grounds of this five mile course.

This is an undulating route with steep hills, fields, woodland and the delight of some sweet downhill tarmac just before mile four. The perfect way to prepare you for a monster steep climb before hitting the final half a mile towards the finish line.

Liam O’Neill came in as third male overall, holding his strong tradition of excellence in this race, after he finished fastest Hayle Runner in 2025. This year he also took gold in the 35-39 age category with an impressive time of 31:22, shaving off a chunk compared to last year’s 32:04 finish.

There were also first place podium finishes for Ian Curnow in the 55-59 group and Jon Eldon, staying in the top spot in the 65-69 age category. Jon knocked more than two minutes compared to 2025, this year finishing in 35:17, after last year’s race time of 37:41.

Deborah Sturges returned strong this year, last year was her Boconnoc debut where she took bronze in the 65-69 age group – which she clinched again this year, with a time almost identical to 2025.

Hayle Runners coach, Melodie Manners was a fantastic second female overall, winning her 35-39 age category.
