WTFC Official The ONLY official page for Willenhall Town FC. We do not currently compete.

31/05/2022

It's with sadness that we must advise of the decision to not compete in the forthcoming season.

As with some other clubs and the current economic climate it is not possible to compete at this time .

I hasten to add that the club is not folding but we are taking what we believe to be the prudent measure to step back from competitive football for the time being to ensure that the Club can play again in the future.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank those people who have supported us with sponsorship in recent years including Ye Olde Toll House and Bloxwich Environmental Services, who provided much needed lifelines and support and to everyone who sponsored a player or who purchased merchandise. I would also like to thank Sharon who has personally funded many elements for a long time.

We hope to be back at some stage in the future, but for this season at least we need to take a step back and plan.

Please do not think that this decision has been made lightly or without thought. The thought process has been extremely tough and upsetting but is necessary at this time to be cautious.

Finally, in addition to thanking our previous sponsors and player sponsors, I would like to thank my colleagues on the management committee, Sharon and Chris and also our volunteers Ken and Hughie.

So, the end of another season has arrived and bought with it a run of games on alternate days over the last week concluding yesterday afternoon with a 2-1 defeat over Allscott. Nice to finish on a win!
With every season end comes change in one form or another and yesterday bought another change for us as we can confirm that First Team Manager Matt Fisher and his assistant Kev Weston are leaving us to move onto pastures new.
Matt has been offered the opportunity to move a level up with another local Club and will be taking on new challenges and adventures there for the forthcoming season. Assistant Manager Kev will be joining him.
Kev has only been with us a relatively short period of time but bought with him a no-nonsense, straight-talking approach which fit well immediately. Kev’s ethos, much like anyone within the Club is get involved and if there’s something to do, he does it. Kev was often found when the changing rooms were empty of players, with a mop and bucket in his hand, not because he had been asked to but because he just wanted to. We will miss Kev and wish him in his new role much success.
Matt has been with us 5 seasons and immediately became part of our Willenhall Town family. He understood, completely, the way we must work to keep our Club alive and the team playing, he has worked creatively, and his own family became very much a part of the wider Club.
We will all miss Matt but look forward to watching with interest the next stage of his football management career and wish him and his family much success. Matt has always worked flexibly and in an open and honest manner, and has been a joy for us to work with.
With regards to our next steps for the Club we will be updating on what we are doing in the coming weeks. Please keep an eye on our page WTFCOfficial and our Twitter account for details.

So, as we approach the end of the season we search, as we do every season, for sponsorship to enable us to move forward and keep playing football.
Sponsorship is the lifeblood of non-league football club and the way we keep running, playing, alive and kicking.
If you or someone you know might be interested in working with us, please get in touch. We welcome businesses, large or small, new or established and can tailor a sponsorship package to suit your needs and budget.

So, this time 41 years ago, the deed was done and we knew that despite all the commitment and sheer hard slog, Willenhall Town FC was not victorious at the final of the FA Vase at Wembley.
No one goes to Wembley or into any football match to lose, however there is an inordinate amount of pride to be had in getting there. Many Clubs aspire to the journey to Wembley and few achieve it. We did. As such the players playing on that day are immortalised in our history and we send all of them our best wishes today - a day when a significant part of the Willenhall Town population boarded a convoy of coaches and made the trip to the capital. It doesn't matter how long ago it was when a Club got to Wembley, the fact that they did is enough!
41 years have passed and we haven't repeated making a return trip to Wembley (yet) but we persevere and continue to represent the Town in that famous red shirt and with a determination no less ardent to that of the Class of 1981.
Eleven years ago, when we celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the achievement, many people had already written us off and assumed that the end of the Club was nigh, however despite the complexities and timescale of what was needed to put things right we battled on (both on and off the pitch), even in the face of often significant resistance, both open and covert, and we are still here, as a Club, to commemorate the 40th Anniversary, still with our name and still with the same dogged determination to win.
The last couple of seasons have been a nightmarish challenge, as to many Clubs in the system and we continue to work to keep the Club representing the Town's name with a small but dedicated team of backstage people, supporting the lads in red who go and play week in and out in our name.
So this evening, we will raise a glass to the Class of 1981 and the legacy of achievement they left for us to look after and aspire to continuing to play. And also we will raise a glass to the lads and management supporters and volunteers and our sponsors for this season.

Pass the message on to those who may think the Club was dead and buried a decade ago and let them know we're still alive and kicking but need their support. We positively welcome sponsorship and fundraising as this is literally our lifeblood. Without it, we do not live to fight another day.
Attending a weekly match, buying a cuppa and a ham roll all help is to fight another day. Thank you to those who do. Thanks to our volunteers, management and players and to our sponsors at Ye Olde Toll House.
And of course thanks to the Class of '81 for the memories.

Simon
