On May 5th we bring awareness to the missing and murdered indigenous women. An average of 3-4 indigenous women go missing each month since 1998 when they started making a record. Most MMIW dont even get put on record. 10% of missing women in Canada are of indigenous decent, which is extremely high for indigenous women considering indigenous people only account for 4% of the population.
Being a woman of indigenous decent, I am extremely aware of what is going on. There was an attempted abduction almost 2 months ago that happened just BLOCKS from where I used to work. It happened at noon where the sun is at its highest! And not too long after that a woman posted a video of herself being followed by a man in which was stopped at a skate park. Again, in the same general area of where I used to work.
These attempts could have been on me.
I am an indigenous woman! I have a right to be a woman and to be human. Even though I have equipped myself well enough to defend myself, I still fear it could possibly not be enough! I am someone! I love my life I live! I worked my ASS off to be where I am at today! I will NEVER disappear on anyone! So if I ever go missing, PLEASE DONT STOP TRYING TO FIND ME! the cops will be useless. 147 of those deaths were in the hands of cops and were considered suspicious deaths.
I dont just speak out for the indigenous women though! I speak out for all women! Treat all women like they are your sisters, your mothers, your aunts, etc. If your family went missing what would you do? I am your sister! Please dont stop looking for me or seeking justice if I ever go missing or am found dead!
