There’s a lot of behind the scenes work that goes into an event, for the athlete and the staff. When you have an athlete willing to go the extra mile and do a little storytelling it creates even more work but it’s worth it to give the fans an inside look at the process and what makes the athlete tick. I want to thank for all his work in Arizona and here in Oregon.
has worked her butt off to get crazy fit for this 50k World Record attempt tomorrow. Excited that we have a mid-April goal race again this year after a year hiatus and thankful that she trusts me with putting on this event. I couldn’t have done it without the help of course measurer extraordinaire, David Katz (pic 3, his work is pic 4). David has measured the last few Olympic Games, the upcoming Olympic Marathon in Sapporo, the World Championships, many of the big city marathons, and was the official and course measurer we used for the in December.
I also want to thank my old teammate with the Mammoth Track Club, 5000m Olympian (pic 5). His event team is amazing and he’s been on top of all things course related and was super helpful with connecting me with local vendors as well. I appreciate his expertise, his friendship, and his ability to accommodate last minute requests.
The stage is set, Des and I have been talking about her entering the ultra world for many years now, and tomorrow she gets to tackle her first.
They say everything is created twice, there’s the mental creation, then the physical creation. Few things are better than having things go from your mind’s eye to reality. Des has been the 50k World Record holder in my mind since this process began last year, I know it’s been the same for her. Tomorrow the mental creation becomes physical.
