His aim was to bring together England's best players to create a team capable of beating Scotland.
- Four years later, there were nine Corinthians in the England team. Between 1883 and 1890, 52 of the 88 caps awarded against Scotland went to Corinthian players. A total of 86 Corinthian players went on to represent England and we still hold the record for providing more England Captains than any o
ther club.
- Corinthians fielded the full England side twice in 1894 and 1895, the only club ever to do so, both matches were against Wales, a 5-1 victory and 1-1 draw respectively.
- Originally created as an amateur side who refused to play in official competitions, Corinthians broke this rule in 1900 when they agreed to play in the Sheriff of London Shield, a charity match in which they defeated League champions Aston Villa 2-1. This competition became the forerunner to the Community Shield.
- Soon after, Corinthians defeated Manchester United 11-3. A record defeat for the Red Devils which still stands to this day. In 2003, the two sides met once again in a celebration of this remarkable feat. Man Utd ran out 3-1 winners.
- In 1902, Real Madrid, inspired by Corinthians, adopted their white strip, and continue to wear the colour to this day.
- Inspired the foundation of Brazillian side SC Corinthians Paulista in 1910, one of the largest football clubs in South America. Such greats as Rivelino, Dunga, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos, Socrates (who once turned out for CCFC), Ronaldo and Tevez have played for the Brazilian Corinthians.
