So, to start the year off, we decided to head to Morocco to check out the new organising team of the Intercontinental Rally better known as The Real Way to Dakar.
This Danish company has now been taken over by new owners after the original owners had to pull out of organising the event in 2025 due to ill health. The new owners, Petur and Thomas, also Danish are breathing new life into the event but will be keeping the basic foundation of the classic Dakar race & raid the organisation has become known for. Thomas runs a successful off-road motorcycle company in Denmark and Petur's job requires precise organisational and logistical skills, which gives them a massive advantage in putting together such events as the Intercontinental Rally.
These advantages were only too obvious during the time we spent with them.
The original plan was to run their first event in 2027, however when approached by a contingent of 4wd contestants who asked them to run an event in 2026 after a cancellation, these guys took up the challenge.
We spent the first 3 days of the event as guests of the organisers and can say the event organisation was extremely professional, slick and on the ball. Full briefings each evening, timed starts for contestants. Medical and recovery teams on hand and full communication with contestants as it was when we entered the event in 2023.
They have big plans for 2027 and have a huge interest for the event from both 2 wheel and 4 wheel contestants
