Well… our wee book did alright.

This weekend "When There’s Only Plan A: Action" hit No.1 on the Irish Times Paperback Non-Fiction Bestseller list.

To see it sitting there among books from major publishers — and even alongside titles like Atomic Habits — is a bit surreal.

We also reached No.1 in three categories on Amazon, which is another milestone I didn’t quite expect when this whole journey started.

From a night in a small gym years ago…
to endurance races, coaching, firefighting, and now writing.

It’s funny how far one small decision can travel.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the book, shared it, bought a copy, or simply sent a message of encouragement. It genuinely means a lot 🙏

Proof again that when people come together behind something positive, great things can happen.

🎙️ Podcast Feature 🎙️

I was delighted to be invited onto the podcast recently — a big thanks to Pat .pat for the invite and for a really enjoyable, open conversation.

While we touched on training and coaching, this episode is mainly about my own journey — from starting out on the couch to completing 50 marathons and Ironman races, and everything that went with that along the way. The ups, the setbacks, the lessons learned, and how consistency over time compounds into something far bigger than you ever expect at the start.

Pat and I have worked closely together over the years, so it was great to reflect on that journey with someone who knows the background and asks the right questions.

After a busy few weeks & Amsterdam last weekend, the last coaching calls are just finished up with my one to one clients & club athletes, getting ready to toe the start line on Sunday at the Dublin City Marathon 2024.

Some of them looking to retain their national titles 🥇🏆for the 3rd consecutive year running, pardon the pun, to the first timers 🏃‍♀️

Talking of first times, a special day for me too, as it'll mark 20 years to the week since I did my first marathon, also Dublin. From the photo, obviously a bit disheveled, tired, sore & exhausted but the sense of achievement was immense.

Also the start of a journey that would take me all over the world, from major city streets, to the middle of nowhere, at all hours of the night with only farm animals looking over the hedges at me for company🐄🐏🐎🐑

I just want to wish everyone, taking on the Dublin Marathon this Sunday all the very best & enjoy the last day of carb-loading 🍬🍚🍝🌮🥯🥤🍯

🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ Marathon day is here – you’ve put in the miles, now it’s time to let your hard work pay off! As you stand at that start line, remember a few things to keep you focused & strong to the finish.

**Pacing is key**: Don't get swept up in the excitement at the start. Stick to the pace you've trained for, and trust that it’ll carry you through. Going out too fast is tempting but will cost you later – save that energy for the final stretch when you need it most!

**Trust your training**: You’ve spent weeks, maybe months, preparing. You’re ready for this! Those tough runs, early mornings & late nights were all leading up to today. Lean into that foundation, & remember you’re more than capable of meeting the challenge ahead.

**Stay positive and believe in yourself**: Mental endurance is just as important as physical. You’ll likely hit a wall at some point, but remember you’ve overcome so much to be here. Visualise your finish line, smile at the crowd & embrace the journey – it’s your moment!

**One step at a time**: When it gets tough, break the race into small goals. Focus on getting to the next mile marker, water station, or familiar landmark. Celebrate each step forward, and soon enough, you’ll be sprinting to that finish line!

You’ve got this 💪 – go out there and make yourself proud! 🏅

🚒🚲 Well done to client Mickey Donaghy, who this week, as part of an 80 strong group of firefighters from Ireland and the New York Fire Department (NYFD) cycled from Phoenix Park, Dublin to the 9/11 memorial park in Kinsale, Cork, a distance of over 360km 🚒🚲

The event which was a fund raiser, saw the Irish Firefighters raising money for the children's cancer charity Aoibheann's Pink Tie and their American counterparts for their colleagues suffering long term health complications from the fallout of 9/11. The cycle culminated on Wednesday with the arrival of the group at the memorial in Kinsale on the anniversary of 9/11.

Well done to Mickey and all involved in an outstanding event which will no doubt raise much needed funds for very worthwhile charities 👏👏👏
