Talofa lava!

We’re celebrating our fifth year taking teams to the 1st Nations Polynesian Cup Tournament in Auckland. Fa’afetai tele lava to our players for repping Wellington Samoa Basketball with pride, and to our incredible coaches and managers for volunteering your time and care—matua taua lou tautua!

This year, we fielded:

- Under 9 Mixed
- Under 11 Boys
- Under 13 Boys
- Under 15 Boys
- Under 17 Boys
- Men’s Masters

Our values—faith, family, and culture—were on full display all weekend. Everyone left it on the court and represented their aiga with pride 🇼🇸.

Fa’amalo to our Under 17s, a team that came together late, bonded fast, and won the U17 Boys competition! Fa’amalo fo‘i to Caeden Ioapo—U17 Boys MVP! 🏆

Fa’amalo to our youngest ballers, the Under 9s—you stole our hearts, and that epic support in the final said it all. Fa’amalo to Malachi Brown—U9 MVP! 🏆

Huge alofa-filled shoutout to our parents and aiga—the real MVPs. Chauffeurs, hype squad, snack suppliers, and prayer warriors—you powered this journey. We hear you in the stands and feel you behind the scenes. Fa’afetai tele lava! ❤️

What a wonderful weekend filled with basketball, family, and the rich tapestry of our culture! We had the privilege of taking our U9 teams all the way through to our Men's Masters team, showcasing the incredible talent and spirit of our community.

Each player represented the Capital, Samoa, and their families with immense pride 🇼🇸. It was heartening to see most of our teams making it through to the Semi-Finals in their respective grades, which is a fantastic achievement. More importantly, it’s the friendships and connections that were forged through our shared love for basketball and the bonds of being Samoan that truly resonate.

A special congratulations goes out to our U15 boys team! After finishing as runners-up for the past two years, they overcame the hurdle this year and took out the U15 boys premier grade title! This victory is a testament to their hard work and resilience. We would also like to acknowledge Caeden Iaopo, who not only contributed to the team's success but also earned the MVP award for his outstanding performance on the court.

We must also celebrate our Men's Masters team for their remarkable achievement in winning their grade. This team is composed of fathers of players in the younger age groups, as well as coaches from those teams. Their unity and teamwork were truly inspiring. Congratulations to Toa Madar for being awarded MVP, reflecting his exceptional contribution to the team’s success.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to all the parents and families for their unwavering love and support. Your encouragement is invaluable and creates a strong foundation for our players.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our dedicated Samoan coaches and managers, who invested countless hours leading up to and throughout the tournament. Your commitment and passion for the game and our players do not go unnoticed.

You embody the true meaning of the Samoan Proverb, "O le ala i le p**e o le tautua," which translates to "the pathway to leadership is through service." Thank you for being the driving force behind our success and for leading by example. Together, we continue to build a legacy that celebrates our culture and the beautiful game of basketball!
