The Plymouth Outlaws steal two well fought games over Wellington Khaki Sox in a Sunday duel.
Game 1: Outlaws 14 – 9 Khaki Sox
The Khaki Sox came out firing, jumping to an early lead while the Outlaws struggled to get going against a solid pitching performance from Jamie Cox. Wellington looked sharp early, applying pressure on both sides of the ball and making Plymouth work for every opportunity.
The momentum shifted in the third inning as the Outlaws finally found their rhythm at the plate, stringing together several big innings pushing runners across the plate.
The Khaki Sox weren't done yet. A spirited fifth-inning rally brought home five runs and reignited hopes of a comeback, but with time running out, Wellington couldn't quite bridge the gap.
There were positives for the Sox, including a valuable performance from rookie Stu Marasco, along with rookie Connah Brennan, who stepped up for his first game with an RBI base hit in his very first plate appearance.
Final Score: Plymouth Outlaws 14 – 9 Wellington Khaki Sox
Game 2: Outlaws 18 – 8 Khaki Sox
Game two started as a tightly contested affair, with both teams shutting down scoring opportunities early. Alex Roberts took the mound for the Khaki Sox and helped keep things competitive through the opening exchanges.
Wellington edged ahead after the first inning, holding a one-run advantage and looking to split the series. However, Plymouth once again found another gear, capitalising on several big innings and making the most of their opportunities with runners on base.
The Khaki Sox continued to battle throughout the game and found some momentum of their own. Rookie Liz Avery in her debut picked up some clean hits earning a base and showing plenty of promise in her first outing.
One of the highlights of the day belonged to George Sinnott in what was his final appearance for the Khaki Sox this season. He sent a towering home run deep to right field, giving the home crowd something to cheer about and providing a fitting moment to cap off his season.
Despite Wellington's efforts, the Outlaws remained composed and continued to answer every challenge, eventually securing an 18-8 victory and completing the doubleheader sweep.
Final Score: Plymouth Outlaws 18 – 8 Wellington Khaki Sox
While the Outlaws take two wins from the day, teams can take away plenty of positives along with a few areas to work on before next weekend's clash with the Clay Cutters in Truro.
