On this day in 1906, Honda's founder was born in a small village near Mount Fuji.

From a young age, Soichiro Honda was fascinated by engines, and he helped at his father's bicycle-repair business. He eventually went into business producing piston rings, and in 1946, he began selling auxiliary motors to power bicycles–an effective, low-cost solution for customers in post-war Japan. His first production motorcycle–the Type A–followed a year later.

By 1955, Honda had become Japan's largest motorcycle manufacturer. American Honda–the company's first international subsidiary–was born four years later.

Honda-san's biography and accomplishments are too lengthy to list here, but suffice to say that his DNA is still present in the company and its products.
