🇬🇭 TEAM FOCUS : GHANA

There is unfinished business in Hanoi for one of the most highly regarded teams in the association. They were not part of the first Hanoi World Cup in 2021, but that same year they made their mark elsewhere, winning the inaugural Afro-American Cup in a campaign that quickly established them as a team to watch... And their route to the title was anything but quiet.

They began the group stage with a victory over Latin America (2-1) before producing an important 3–1 win against rivals Nigeria.

Against a good looking Algeria side in the semifinal, they came through a remarkable 6–3 contest to reach the final. There, they faced Latin America again. Having already beaten them in the group stage, they completed the double with a convincing 3–0 victory to lift the Afro-American Cup trophy for the first time.

Five years on, that title remains an important part of their identity. But it is no longer enough to simply remember what they achieved.

YEARS OF TOGETHERNESS
One of the team's biggest advantages heading into Hanoi 2026 is something that cannot easily be bought or assembled : familiarity. A large part of the squad has been playing together for several years. That continuity has allowed the players to develop an understanding of each other's game, also possessing considerable individual quality. That balance between individual talent and collective chemistry is one of the reasons they are widely considered among the most promising teams in the competition.

THE CAPTAIN WHO WON'T BE THERE
There will, however, be a notable absence in Hanoi. Muhammed Huzaif, the team's emblematic captain, will not be part of the 2026 campaign. For a side that has grown together over several years, losing such an important figure naturally changes the dynamic. Huzaif's presence has been closely associated with the team, particularly since their breakthrough at the 2021 Afro-American Cup... But the squad knows that it cannot spend the tournament looking backwards.

His legacy remains, and the players now have the opportunity to carry it forward. The responsibility will be shared among a group that has spent years building its own identity alongside him.

THE TARGET IS NO SECRET
They missed the first Hanoi World Cup. Five years later, they arrive in the Vietnamese capital with a major trophy already on their résumé, a squad that knows each other extremely well, and a wave of supporters ready to make themselves heard.

Muhammed Huzaif will not be leading them onto the pitch this time. But his team is still here.

And they are coming to Hanoi with one very clear objective : to finish what they started in 2021 and add the World Cup to their trophy cabinet.

🇯🇵 TEAM FOCUS: JAPAN

Japan enter this year’s Hanoi World Cup with unfinished business. When they arrived for the inaugural tournament in 2021, expectations were exceptionally high. A strong series of pre-tournament friendlies had established Japan as one of the teams to watch, but the tournament itself delivered a result few could have predicted. Two losses to England (1-5) and Ireland (0-2) the Japanese side could only get a draw against Algeria (1-1). With just one point from three matches, Japan finished bottom of the group — a disappointing campaign for a side expected to challenge at the highest level.

Their response later that year in the Asian Cup was far stronger. Japan dominated the group stage and produced one of the tournament's standout results with a memorable 6–0 victory over China, reinforcing their status as one of Asia's leading sides... But once again, the final step proved elusive : in the semifinal against Vietnam, Japan fought back to a 2–2 draw, only to suffer another heartbreak in the penalty shootout (2-3). Those setbacks remain part of Japan's story — but so does the ambition to move beyond them.

This year, the objective is clear. Japan have the quality, the experience and the motivation to finally turn expectations into achievement. The memories of 2021 provide both a warning and a source of determination.

They are not in Hanoi simply to compete. They are here to win.

Will Japan finally lift the trophy ?

🌍⚽ World Cup : Hanoi 2026 IS COMING ⚽🌍

Hello everybody! My name is Kevin, and I am a French expatriate living in Hanoi.

Football has always been a huge part of my life. Beyond the game itself, I love its unique ability to bring people together, regardless of nationality, culture, or background. On a football pitch, we all speak the same language.

In 2021, I decided to turn that passion into something real by organizing the first Hanoi World Cup, bringing together 16 nations from the expatriate community. What started as a simple idea became an incredible experience, creating friendships, unforgettable memories, and a true sense of community.

Since then, the dream has only grown bigger.

As a Frenchman, I have always admired Jules Rimet, the man who created the World Cup because he believed football could unite people across borders. In my own way, I try to follow that same spirit here in Hanoi.

This tournament is about much more than results or trophies. It is about pride, friendship, respect, and the joy of representing our countries while sharing our love for the game. It is about bringing people together and creating something special as a community.

My passion for this tournament is immense because I truly believe football has the power to connect people and create lasting memories. Every team, every player, and every supporter contributes to making this event unique.

So, this end of October (exact date to be announced soon) we are, one more time, bringing together nations from all corners of the globe for an unforgettable football celebration : not a 16 but 24-Nations World Cup right here in Hanoi !

But this is more than just a tournament... We are building a true international football experience for expatriates, where players proudly represent their country and compete throughout the year in major continental and international competitions such as Euro Championship, the Asian Cup, Africa Cup, the Americas Cup... All tournaments will be held annually, creating a unique football community where national pride, friendship, and competition come together. If it meets more success, I'll be considering alternating the venues in Saigon in the future.

2026 is a World Cup year, and Hanoi won't get away from it... The original Hanoi World Cup is coming back by the end of the year. The tournament is set to feature 24 NATIONAL TEAMS instead of the last 16 tournament back in 2021.

As a good new never come alone, it's not just the World Cup, but also the EURO CUP, ASIAN CUP and AFRO-AMERICAN CUP that will make a comeback. International games will be introduced again and discussed with other leagues in Hanoi to create international breaks.

So, how to participate ?

You're from a specific country, and have 9+ people to make a team ? Choose a delegate player, or a captain and contact me directly Kévin Vidal . I'll later add you to the delegates group where all the upcoming informations will be shared.

✨ Play football the way it's intended to be played : represent your country and raise your flag high. ✨
