Killer Mountain Challenge 2015- El Yaque is over……the results are in.
Wow!

Women’s Category: Only 2 girls were able to compete. Others were injured and two have the flu. Both competitors are from Canada……….Christy Baker and Nora Lukss………….both wanted to win bad…………can you imagine……..you only have to beat one other and you’re the winner…………..what happens?...........unbelievable but they tie………and we couldn’t convince them to have a playoff…………someone suggested mud wrestling to determine the winner………….but sadly they decided to part as friends and share the trophy…………..congrats to both Christy and Nora.

Men’s Category: Every year the event is getting bigger…….this year 21 riders vs. 15 from last year. We even attracted a lot of Big Dogs…….Jason from Canada ( 2 times KMC Champ), Lucien from East Germany (last year’s KMC Champ), Jose Louis from Venezuela (3 times Venezuela national MTB Champ) and Rony (1 time Venezuela national MTB Champ)…………this is getting to be some serious sh*t happening…………pretty intimidating As you can expect with such a strong field……..Big results! 17 riders make it up Killer 1. Last year only 7 made it…………….and Killer1 is way harder than last year……….narrower and has an extreme finish at F**cking Rock. This means that Stage 2 (Killers 2-6) will determine which of these 17 strong riders can survive the distance. No rider in competition has ever made it all the way up to the finish at Killer 6………….but this year it looks like they all could make it………….so what happens? It comes down to separating the men from the boys………….will one of the previous champs with all of their medals win?

KMC2015 El Yaque friends, riders and supporters:

A new Woman’s World Record has been set on Killer Mountain!!!

First Nora from Canada broke the old record and then Maria from Germany tied it. Now the new record is just below FR………..what is FR?........everyone who knows Killer Mountain knows that FR is Fu***ng Rock and FR is a real bastard. Nora and Maria now hold the record together………… What are these girls eating? All of the girls who have tried this challenge over the last 8 years haven’t come even close to this mark. Great job!!

KMC 2015 El Yaque is only 16 days away!!! The training is getting more and more intense. The riders are measuring their percentages of success on each of the 6 mountains……………on competition day you only get 3 tries per mountain. This KM1 is a lot tougher than last year and only a few riders are above 90%.
Tom (Germany) 90%
Phil (Canada) 90%
Jonathan 90%
Gregorio 90%
Johan 90%
Robert 90%
All of these guys are consistent and super strong on KM1,2,3 and 4. KM5 and 6 are still a low percentage.
A lot of guys are still training with click shoes so it might not be so easy when they start training without them.
Leo, Stefan, Otto, Al, Andres and Andres2 are getting stronger but their consistency is well below 50%........go guys go!

We expect the largest turnout ever…………..riders from Canada, Germany, Austria, USA, France and Venezuela have already confirmed.
Confirmed Big Dogs:
Jason Big One Ball Baker; Canada; previous KMC Champ
Andres; Venezuela; last year’s number 2
Lucien; Germany; last year’s KMC Champ

To all KMC friends, supporters and competitors:

Our training sessions for KMC 2015 El Yaque are getting even more intense…………every section of every mountain is being analyzed……….strategies formed………..gear changes plotted…………nothing is being left to chance.

Two more riders have reached the top of Killer Mountain 1 and will be posted on our Wall of Fame on our website………….see pictures attached. Now the count has risen to only 33 men in the world who have made it up KM1……………Congrats!

#32: Jonathan Loran…………not only does he make KM1 look easy but he does it with speed…………he looks like a serious contender to win KMC…………he’s a local Venezuelan who trains with us at least 3 times a week.

#33: Robert Bermudez………….also a local rider who trains like a mad man…… super strong young rider………does KM1 to KM6 and constantly smiles…………..others struggle but he shows that he is invincible.

Silently training and gunning to win the Women’s division is Nora from Canada………..she has now tied the Woman’s World Record up KM1………….but that is not good enough for her…………she wants to be the first woman to get to the top of KM1…………Go Nora Go!

The rumor is that last year’s Woman’s Champ, Jolie, will start training in 2 days………..injuries and surgeries have kept her out of action for a long time but now she is back………..no way she wants to give up her title…………Go Jolie Go!

We expect the largest turnout ever…………..riders from Canada, Germany, Austria, USA, France and Venezuela have already confirmed. Confirmed

Big Dogs:

Jason Big One Ball Baker; Canada; previous KMC Champ

Andres; Venezuela; last year’s number 2 Lucien; Germany; last year’s KMC Champ

Killer Mountain Challenge 2014- El Yaque is over……the results are in. What a turnout! I hope everyone had a fun event. It’s fun but it’s also about POWER. You get to compare your power and ability with mountain bike riders from around the world. This year we had competitors from East Germany, Bavaria, Venezuela, Scotland, Canada, Poland, Austria, Argentina and Sweden.

Woman’s Category:

Sandra (Sweden) was clearly favored starting the event. She had set the world record in a training session so the other girls knew she would be a problem to deal with. Nora (Canada) was first out of the gate…………her best run ever……….she beat last year’s winning finish. This was clearly Nora’s way of saying….”I own this hill.” Sandra was up next …… had a reasonable run but she was way behind Nora. Then Yoli (Venezuela) blasts out of the gate and never looks back………..she cruises past Nora’s mark and nearly sets a new record………….shocking! Adriana up next………….she struggles………..not happy. Yoli has set a nearly impossible mark to beat on her first run! Nora tries again………..good but not better. Then Sandra…………..she’s done it before and knows she can do it…………..she passes Nora’s mark by centimeters and then falls…………..she’s just 2 meters from Yoli but short. More tries but no further success……………Yoli wins!

Yoli de Brendt (Venezuela)
Sandra Friden (Sweden)
Nora Lukss (Canada)
Adriana de Sampson

Junior Category:
Only one rider………Andres Padilla Jr…………16 years old……………..obviously he wins his category but guess what? He makes it up Killer 1 no problem and then in Stage 2 makes it up Killer 2 and 3 and sets his mark three quarters the way up Killer 4……………will this be enough to beat the Adult Men?

Men’s Category:
This year we have almost double the competitors…………15 riders.
Big turnout! Big result! 7 riders make it up Killer 1. Last year only 3 made it. Plus two of the riders that didn’t make it were really close………………Nils (Germany) was only 5 meters short and Primo (Venezuela) was only 15 meters short.
This means that Stage 2 (Killers 2-6) will determine which of these 7 strong riders can survive the distance.
As we know Killer 2 is not for the faint hearted…………. Super steep on the way down and steep on the way back up…………….2 riders get knocked out on the way down leaving only 5……………….then 4 get knocked out on the way up……………shocking! Only one rider makes it up Killer 2 and this is on his final try………..it’s Lucien (Germany)…………..he has never trained on Killer 2-6……………..we’re worried that he won’t be able to find the route past Killer 2…………..but he finds the way……………….keeps on going and going and going…………….now he’s heading up Killer 4…………….he makes it about three quarters of the way up……………fabulous run…………..clearly the Men’s winner…………….but now the question is whether or not Andres (Junior) might have been further……………the judges are called out for a measurement.

Lucien Fieblinger (East Germany)………..from Dresden…… which is 2 hours from Prague. Formerly a BMX rider but never really took up mountain biking………..he’s a kite instructor living in El Yaque, moving to Brazil for a while and then back to university in a year. He is #25 in the world to get up Killer Mountain. Says he loves the bike trails in El Yaque…………nothing like he has done before………….desert rock and sand………..thrilling hilly single tracks in stunning nature.
Andres Padilla (Venezuela)…………..was considered the favorite to win…………..this is his home track and he practices the Killer series more than anyone…………….his comment after his disappointing third try…………”he was nervous”……………he’ll be back to try and win next year.
Hernan Rodriguez (Venezuela)………….his fans were screaming that he was old and rusted every time he made a mistake………….well he showed them with a dramatic 3rd place finish.

Did the Junior beat the Men? Yes he did…….by about a meter. Andres Padilla Jr. is small and very light weight at 16……………a force to be reckoned with…………we’ll see a lot more of him in the future.
Other Noteables:
Stefan Hoffmann (Bavaria, Germany)……………is the 26th man to make it up Killer Mountain…………….he’s been working on it for years………….and when does he finally do it? Under pressure, during the competition…………….congrats Stefan! Stefan is an early retired executive living the good life in El Yaque.
Andres Padilla Jr. ………….is the 24th man up Killer Mountain…………..he did it in a training session shortly before the event……………makes it look easy.
Christian Cordova (Venezuela)…………is the 27th man up Killer Mountain…………..he did it during the competition.
Hernan Rodriguez (Venezuela)……………is the 28th man up the mountain………….he also did it during the competition.

Thanks to all of the spectators, judges, volunteers and competitors for a great event!
