Trail & Vine

Trail & Vine We pair hiking trails and local wineries for you to try. Let's go! Beautiful vistas, people and vineyards are never far.

After spending years discussing our hiking adventures over a glass of wine together, we want to share these joys with you in hopes our treks, talks and tastings inspire. We pair amazing trails with local wineries and look forward to hearing your favorites too!

While we fell in love with the Boiler Blush (ok, maybe Lisa was especially drawn to this one, being a Boiler herself!), we could not pass by the cocktail of the month, the Watermelon Sugar! While the name rings of sweetness, the drink itself was truly refreshing on a beautifully sunny day! Another bonus, Brent and Francis share their cocktail recipes on their website! https://www.rejoicingvine.com/

Brent and Francis, the winery owners, not only are committed to creating wonderful sparkling wine in Indiana, they are also committed to nature and regenerative farming. Also, one of the main ways they reduce their carbon footprint, is to serve the majority of the wines in their tasting from stainless steel kegs, versus bottles. By reducing the usage of packaging and bottle usage, they can save an average of 10,000 bottles in a landfill with one stainless steel keg - that is a commitment to the environment!

Kirsten and Lisa chose to each do a flight of 3 tastings, plus some charcuterie (as we do!). The bubbly is truly wonderful, but the food is not to be overlooked! The Rejoicing Vine does so many events also and has a wonderful Sunday brunch menu!

As summer turns to fall, we found a beautiful hike in Zionsville! Starkey Nature Park. Granted, we had a lovely day to explore, but lots of trail options here! And a nice area for parking too.

Wow - it’s been a cold and snowy winter! We discovered Starkey Nature Park in Zionsville and we loved it!. There are over 6 trails from which to choose - another “pick your own adventure” option in the area. The day we went it was snowy and and a little slick in spots but we love winter hiking - very peaceful…

Happy 2025! We hope you are having a safe and peaceful start to the new year. With all the snow we’ve had near Indy, it’s a great time to enjoy this winter white! The Nickel Plate Trail near Fishers is quite cleared (minus the path from the parking lot). And it was fun to spot some red in the trees! And while you may be doing a dry January, Lisa prefers a “damp” January…it’s ok to cut back but let’s not go overboard with no wine at all! If this is your jam, Lisa highly recommends this Vhino Verde from Portugal, Broadbent. With only 9% alcohol, it’s a crisp, citrus like flavor with a bit of bubbles! Cheers and enjoy!
