We wrapped up our 2026 season with an awards banquet. Congratulations to Trenton Nyland and Tyler Smith for winning the Nathan Wilson Memorial Scholarship. They both received a check for $500 and their name on a plaque that will proudly be displayed at the Holland Fish and Game club.

Deacon Nyland and Max Van Dis won the Jeff Homkes Most Improved Angler. Which was presented by Forest Brown who was Jeff's long time tournament partner and good friend. All winners were presented $100 gift certificates to the Outdoorsmen Pro Shop.

We recognized our 5 seniors Trenton Nyland, Holden Markoski, Tayven Prince, Brock Walters and Krishtian Caniff with a bass fishing collage of their career with the Fishhawx.

Trenton Nyland & Tyler Smith competed in the 2026 Bassmaster H.S. National Championship on Kentucky Lake from July 30 - August 1. Although they didn't finish as well as they would have liked, we are extremely proud of the focus, drive and effort that it took to get to the highest level in competitive H.S. bass fishing.

This year's Lunker Squad winner was Rogen Koorndyk with a 6 lb 11oz largemouth. He received a spinning rod/reel combo. All the other members received $50 gift certificates to The Outdoorsmen. Other winners were Russell Schuiling – 6 lbs 7 oz and Rogen Koorndyk - 5 lbs 12 oz.

I want to give a huge thank you to Mike & Dawn Louwsma for hosting the banquet, Marc Shankel & the Holland Fish & Game club for all of their support and Melissa Mankowski- VanderVelde, Matthew Colvin and Brian Dobrinski for helping make the banquet happen.

Shoreline Bass Tour - Youth Division Stop #5 on Muskegon Lake. Final stop for this awesome circuit was a bit of a grind for most of our teams. We had 4 H.S. in a field of 41 and 6 M.S. out of 27 teams competing. Congratulations to all our M.S. teams. All of them finished in the Top 10. We have some young hammers coming up.

We have two amazing anglers competing in the Bassmaster High School Championship. Trenton Nyland and Tyler Smith are not only great anglers, but they are anglers we are glad are representing us at the national level. They are a great example of class, respect, hard work ethic, and leadership we hope all of our Fishhawx anglers will model. We are so proud of their hard work to be able to qualify for the national event. We have a lot of great anglers in the state of Michigan, to be among the best of them is an outstanding accomplishment. Good luck today!

The Zeeland Fishhawx competed for the 4th Shoreline Bass Tour - Youth Division tournament on the Grand River. The amazing tournament directors were able to reschedule the tournament after having to cancel the tournament last week due to the terrible air quality conditions. Shout out to Ron Scharphorn with Grand Haven Bassmasters for helping reduce the ramp fees for the tournament. Our team does an amazing job raising money from the help of our amazing sponsors. Every little bit helps us be able to support our anglers for as many tournaments as possible.

The Grand River fished tough for our anglers. Our anglers continue to learn more each tournament. I know a lot of teams did not do as well as they hoped. “I’d like to dedicate this award to the losers. Because I tell you from my own experience, winning is one thing but out of losing I always learned more for the future. So I got stronger in losing.” -Niki Lauda. I think Niki was very true in his statement, I think having a tough tournament can drive you to work harder for the next one.

Jaxton Zeerip finished second place in the middle school division.

#2 of the MBN Youth Division was up at Hubbard Lake. Weather was all over the place both days — sun, rain, and wind.

We had two teams out there:
Deacon Nyland & Isaiah Blattener, and Caden Terpstra & Cameron Fuller.

- Caden & Cameron – 11.75 (16th)

Nice work by all the guys. Fishing new lakes isn’t easy, and it takes a lot of time and commitment to get out there and compete. 👍

WMB H.S. & M.S series started Sunday at Hardy Dam. We had 8 teams compete.

There were 40 teams that took to the water in the H.S. Division. We had 3 teams in the top 10.

Well it was a rainy start to the Michigan bass nation circuit. The first stop was Coldwater lake. We had 3 teams compete in both Saturday and Sunday tournament. The teams were excited to start the year off and look forward to the next ones. In just a few weeks we'll be moving North to Hubbard lake. Good job everyone. A big Thanks to the Carr family and all the other volunteers for all their work to make it all happen.

When we started competing in the Sportspersons Ministries International circuit in 2019 there were around 35 H.S. teams. The Fishhawx club was born from it. We can't thank Ross Graveling enough for all the hard work he's put in collaborating with club leaders to keep the circuit growing, enforcing good rules to keep it all about the kids growth and teaching those involved about God's word and challenging us to know him better. This has become the premier circuit in W. MI and the lives you continue to touch through it is so essential in these trying times for our youth.

The third Sportspersons Ministries International bass tournament was on Saturday 5/9 on the Grand River presented by Distinctive Manufacturing Group.

The weather was very cold for our last spring boating tournament. We had our biggest turnout yet with 30 teams that competed. We had a great tournament in the tough conditions. For a lot of our teams, the hard work put into research and practice before the tournament paid off big time.

We were able to take home the school of the year award for both the high school and middle school divisions. Our goal has been to win School of the Year for high school for the last few years. We have some great hammers in our high school division, and we have plenty in our middle school division that we look forward to their continued growth into the high school division next year.

Our team that put in the most work was rewarded for their effort. I think they might have put in more hours on the water practicing before each of the tournaments than any other team in the field. Trenton and Deacon Nyland are some amazing anglers on and off the water, and we look forward to what the future holds for Trenton as he graduated this year. We are excited to have Deacon back next year to continue the amazing work he put in this year. They won all three Sportspersons Ministries International bass tournaments and won anglers of the year for the high school division in a field of over 100 very competitive high school teams. Congrats again to them!
