Our mission is to contribute to the empowerment and security of our community through the proper application of pressure, technique, and control. As a member of team Tom DeBlass, we pride ourselves on having an atmosphere where everyone regardless of age, athletic ability, or gender can thrive and learn.

🦝💕🥋 Our annual Sunday After Mother’s Day Mother's Day class was a SUCCESS. 🥋💕🦝

Every year we invite the moms onto the mats to experience a little bit of what their kids do every week… and every year it turns into one of our favorite classes of the year.

Partner warmups.
Technique drills.
Self-defense lessons.
Rolling.
And of course… absolute dodgeball chaos.

The kids came in confident after holding the dodgeball championship for the last few years.

Unfortunately for them… the moms arrived with a level of competitive intensity usually reserved for survival situations. 😄

The moms took the championship back this year in dominant fashion and honestly, the children may never emotionally recover.

Jokes aside, this class is always such a great reminder of what makes Gracie Fernandina special. Families learning together, supporting each other, laughing together, and making memories on the mats.

Huge thank you to all the moms who joined us. You all crushed it. 💕🥋

🦈⚔️ SPARWARS hit the Makos class on Monday! ⚔️🦈

We split the class into two teams, picked team captains, and sent these young grapplers into battle through:

🥋 Toe Tag
💪 Sumo
🔥 Scored Jiu-Jitsu Matches

What started as organized chaos quickly turned into one of the most fun classes we’ve had in a while.

The best part?
The teamwork.

Kids cheering each other on.
Captains helping with strategy.
Encouragement after wins AND losses.
Lots of respect. Lots of effort. Lots of yelling. 😄

And after all that… it came down to the VERY LAST MATCH where the 🔵 Blue Team pulled out the win by just ONE point.

🦝🥋 The team brought the energy to Newbreed this weekend! 🥋🦝

Big smiles, tough matches, and a whole lot of heart on the mats.

From first-time competitors to seasoned grinders, everyone stepped up and represented the team the right way. 💪🔥

Nothing beats watching this crew grow, support each other, and go after it.

Also somewhere between matches, snacks, and questionable decision making, the possums were thriving. 🦝😄

Now it’s back to the mats, a little more experienced, a little tougher, and slightly more feral.

Proud of this team. Let’s keep it rolling. 🥋🔥🦝

🦝🥋 Grip battles in the kids class 🥋🦝

This drill looks simple… until you try it.

Top player: break grips.
Bottom player: get both hands on the mat.

That’s it.
And somehow it turns into full-on grappling chess.

What they’re really learning:

💪 strong, intentional grips
✂️ how to break grips
🚫 why putting your hands on the mat is a bad idea
🧠 control, balance, and awareness

They think it’s a game.
We know it’s building real jiu-jitsu habits.

Fun, a little chaotic, and very effective. 🥋🦝

We've spent a lot of time revamping the lifeskills development part of our jiu-jitsu classes and we're excited to share the great news.

In addition to the original life skills we try to develop (resilience, honesty, dedication, etc) we are now introducing some more practical lifeskills that will be taught during kids classes at no extra cost. The two were most proud of are aimed at improving our children's asbestos removal and mold remediation skills. Here kids learn that breathing under pressure AND in toxic environments with or without PPE can be harmful physically but teaches character, as well as a recession proof vocation.

We think our lineup of new and improved "Skills for Life" will be absolutely priceless for parents looking to not just teach kids how to defend themselves but also learn that sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do to keep food on the table.

All showing up, working hard, and helping each other improve.

🦈🥋 Hammerheads in Action (11–13yo) 🥋🦈

This is the part of class where things get real.

Our Hammerheads are putting their techniques to the test with live training rounds. It’s fast, it’s challenging, and it’s where all the drills start to come together.

These young grapplers are learning:

💪 resilience

🧠 problem solving under pressure

🤝 respect for their training partners

🥋 real jiu-jitsu

Some rounds are smooth.

Some rounds are chaotic.

All of them make them better.

Proud of the effort this crew brings to the mats every week.

🦝🥋 Promotion Week at Gracie Fernandina! 🥋🦝

Another great week on the mats and a handful of our young grapplers leveled up. Stripes don’t show up by accident. They come from showing up to class, trying hard, helping teammates, and getting just a little better every time.
