Hey everyone! I’m doing my best to get back to your messages. I’m typically “out of the office” Tuesday-Thursday, as those are the days that I travel for swim lessons.

Thank you all for your patience! I’ll get back to ALL of your messages by the end of the weekend! 😊 Stay cool out there!! 😎

Hi everyone! It has been brought to my attention that there is someone (not a business, but a person) advertising private swim lessons locally, who may not be 100% honest about references, experience, etc. I am not in the business of bad-mouthing or taking business away from anyone. My main priority is ensuring that every child receives quality, life-saving education and instruction in the water, no matter who is instructing them.

I love to see ALL credible small businesses supported. If you or anyone you know is considering private swim lessons with someone other than Citrus Aquatics, please PLEASE check references diligently and ensure that they are truthful about their experience and duration of time teaching swim lessons. Your time and money is incredibly valuable, and the proper instruction of your child in the water is VITAL.

Please feel free to reach out to me any time if you have any questions. Thank you all for supporting not only Citrus Aquatics, but all credible small businesses in our community. 🧡

What do we mean when we say that our swim lessons are “Montessori inspired”?

Simply put, we mean that we follow your child’s lead, respect their natural developmental interests, and offer activities that encourage them to move forward in their learning. This means we offer activities that swimmers show interest in and can build upon, rather than coercing or pressuring children into activities that they aren’t ready for.

As a Montessori homeschooling parent and someone who is educated in early child development, I’ve found that children learn best when offered opportunities for autonomy and expression of their own interests.

What does this mean for YOU, as the parent?
We always encourage parents to watch and engage during swim lessons, but we ask for your support as we gently encourage your swimmer to try new activities, rather than forcing. In some cases, it may seem as though they aren’t learning as quickly as you may like, but I assure you that they are RIGHT where they need to be!

“The child has a mind able to absorb knowledge. He has the power to teach himself.”

Hi parents! Only a few days until the swim season officially starts! 🤩

Let’s go over some things that you can do at home, to prepare your little one for their swim lessons this summer! 🏊🏻‍♀️

• TALK about swimming! Simple as that! Go into detail about what your child might learn during their swim class. Kicking, paddling, blowing bubbles, and “listening” to the bubbles are great things to bring up!

• Water Play! Try the sprinklers, the hose, or set up a play activity in the bathtub or shower! Help your little one get used to having water on their face, head, and ears. Have fun, and make sure to follow your child’s lead. No pressure!!

• Consider throwing those floaties in the trash. TODAY! I know that may sound scary, but letting go of floaties is crucial for your child to gain confidence and autonomy in the water. Floaties can cause a couple of different things to happen: Your child may become over-confident in the water, assuming that they can float with OR without their floaties. Then, they could jump or fall into the pool, which could cause them to experience lasting fears of swimming and/or water. Seriously... throw away the floaties!

• If you choose to continue offering floaties for your swimmer, ALWAYS take them into the pool with floaties OFF, first. While you play in the pool without floaties, talk about floaties and what they do. Make sure that your child understands why floaties are used, and what happens when you take them off.

Remember, it doesn’t matter how young your child is. Start having these conversations and offering water play every day, no matter the age of your child.

I’m so excited to teach your little ones to swim this summer! Happy prepping!!! 🤩🤗

Hey parents! 🤗 I see a ton of new faces here, so I thought I’d re-introduce myself! I’m Lindsey, the mama behind Citrus Aquatics. 👋🏻

Before Citrus Aquatics, I swam competitively and taught group swim lessons for many years 🏊. I found that group lessons didn’t provide enough support for each individual student, especially students with genuine fears of the water. So, I hit the books and learned everything that I could about child development, water safety, and water trauma. Taking what I’d learned from swimming competitively, teaching lessons, and studying, I opened Citrus Aquatics in 2017! 🍊

Aside from teaching swim lessons, I’m a Montessori homeschooling mama, and a student in Early Childhood Education. I also love to spend time in the garden with my son, Jeffrey! I find so much value in growing food and cooking home-grown meals with my family. 👩🏻‍🌾

Thank you for being here, and getting to know a little bit about me! I’m so excited to learn more about you, and I’m ESPECIALLY excited to help your little ones learn to swim! 🤩

Does your child struggle putting their face or ears into the water? 🥶

Don’t worry! This is the most common “water fear” that I see with the children that I meet and teach. Follow these tips to help your child conquer these fears (or catch them before they become an issue!)

1. During bathtime, encourage your little one to lay on their back while you hold their head above the water. Gently lower their ears into the water as they get comfortable (note: this may take a few tries before your child will allow their ears to fully submerge. Go at THEIR pace!)

🍊 The warm water in the bath tub is a much more comfortable temperature for them to get used to having their ears in the water. Bonus points if you use bubble bath! 🛁

2. If your little one uses a straw cup, encourage them to blow bubbles into their drink! Eventually, offer a bowl of water to blow bubbles into. Use the straw first, then show them how to blow bubbles into the bowl with their lips. Next, try it in the bath tub! When they’re comfortable with their lips, show them how to “blow their nose” into the bathtub.

🍊 This helps kiddos get comfortable having water on their face, while also getting them used to the breathing technique while swimming.

3. Offer showers! If your little ones are used to taking a bath every night, try a shower tonight!

🍊 Showers are such a fun way to encourage confident water play, while helping children get used to water on their face. Make sure to use a non-slip bath mat if you’ve got toddlers!

I hope these tips are helpful for you! If you have any questions please message us! 😊🤗
