Group Education Opportunity:
Tracking alcohol and understanding why it’s labeled how it is.
Alcohol is a carbohydrate. However, unlike other carbohydrates, alcohol carries 7 calories per gram instead of 4.
If you notice in this first picture, the carbohydrate listed for each glass of wine is only 4g, but the glass is 125 calories total.
This is because companies are not required to list alcohol as a carbohydrate, only the sugar content in their product (you know, because the government cares about our health).
So, the total carbohydrate listed for this meal is 27g in MFP. However, the actual total carbohydrate for this meal (calorically) is 108g (435 calories worth).
This is a new client of mine who’s doing GREAT with her tracking (almost dead on her numbers by what’s listed) but because the alcohol’s actual carbohydrate content isn’t listed, she actually 81g OVER hear carbohydrate assignment for the day.
The second picture is an infographic you can use to accurately track alcohol and stay on track. 🙌🏽
