An important win.

The Colorado Supreme Court ruled that private employers cannot terminate at-will employees for exercising their right to self-defense against imminent bodily harm. This decision, arising from a convenience store incident, establishes that corporate policies cannot override an individual’s fundamental legal privilege to protect their own life while working.

For the first time in more than 100 years, Minnesota has confirmed wild cougar kittens born inside the state.

Trail cameras near Voyageurs National Park captured a female cougar with three large kittens, marking the first verified cougar reproduction in Minnesota since the early 1900s. Wildlife officials say this is far more significant than the occasional lone cougar sightings reported over the years. Most Midwest sightings involve wandering males from western states. A breeding female with kittens suggests the possible beginning of a resident cougar population returning to the Upper Midwest.

One litter does not mean Minnesota suddenly has an established cougar population. But it does suggest cougar expansion in the Midwest may no longer be just isolated sightings.
