This is the Black Canyon of the Yellowstone River. We just finished a four day trek through one of the most beautiful sections of the park!

We saw bison, snakes, bald eagles, and pronghorns. We swam in the river next to camp.

We had such a great backpacking trip!

We actually saw FIVE snakes in one day on this trip! 3 common garter snakes and 2 rattlesnakes. Oh, and we saw a bald eagle too!

I really like seeing rattlers. They have beautiful colors, and they warn you when they feel nervous so you have a chance to step away.

If you like seeing animals when you backpack, definitely come join us in Yellowstone!

This lake is the midpoint of our seven day backpacking journey across Lake Clark National Park in Alaska.

See that wall of mountains behind the water? We’ll head up through a mountain pass the next day to continue exploring!

First we have to cross about a mile of braided rivers coming out of the glacier up the valley.

The reason Turquoise Lake is so blue is because it’s melted glacier water. As the glacier moves over the land, it grinds rocks up into a fine silt. There is so much glacial flour in the water that it absorbs every other wavelength of light except beautiful blue!
