My Venture in to the kydex world
I started this small business as a hobby out of boredom. My department had issued us new weapons, and I was searching for holster reviews on YouTube for an off-duty carry holster. Low and behold, I seen a video called “make your own kydex holster”. So I clicked on it and watched the video. Seemed pretty simple. Heat some plastic, wrap it around a gun, and press it. Eureka!!!! I had a new hobby idea to take my mind off of the normal day to day grind of the Police job.
After about a week, I had finally received my order of materials. Had a toaster oven ready and had built myself a press. I could not wait to heat that kydex and make a sexy new holster to show my friends.....yeah....soooo, went through that material order pretty fast and still didn't have a holster to show my friends. Keep in mind, I'm in law enforcement, and surrounded by gun guys and gals, and serious holster critics. I had bragged for weeks how I was gonna make them the best holster they had ever had!! Yeah.....right......
Finally after another material order, I got a “holster” pressed. Man oh man was I proud of that batwing looking pile of scorched kydex crap. However, it was a start to my new hobby, and form of stress relief. It’s weird that the stress of trying to make a working holster was a stress relief from the day to day operations in the LEO world.
So here I am today, little over 2 years later, lots of money spent and wasted on burned, scorched, and melted kydex, lots of time in the shop learning by trial and error. I’ve came a long way in those 2 years. I see holster makers put on their pages and sites “BEST KYDEX HOLSTER ON THE MARKET”. No man, It’s not. I’m sure its a great holster. But I doubt its the best. I don’t know if anyone can actually make that claim honestly. I will say this about my holsters and gear, I trust it, I use it daily, and I work with, and know other people like me, that use my gear daily. I won’t send anything out for anyone to use unless I trust it will perform as it should.
