First up in our Naches Fest route previews: Little Russell! At 4 miles and 600 feet of climbing, this is our best option for riders who want their first taste of backcountry mountain biking.
Little Russell is a flowy stretch of backcountry singletrack with a mellow grade, good sightlines, and an approachable natural style. It’s a great place to build confidence, develop your skills, and enjoy the backcountry feel that makes riding in the Wildcat area so much fun.
The downhill section is easy to lap again if you want another run, giving riders a chance to spend more time on the trail and enjoy a few laps with fellow riders. The climb follows smooth forest roads with comfortable grades, and a small creek crossing to navigate right at the start of the ride.
Russell Ridge is a multi-use backcountry trail that our chapter has spent several work parties and hundreds of volunteer hours working on this year. A lot of work has gone into bringing this trail back to spec for all user groups, and we’re excited to introduce it to new riders and reintroduce it to those who may not have ridden Russell Ridge since the recent work.
When you’re done riding, come hang out with us back at camp. Lunch will be served from 12:30–1:30 PM.
Sticking around for our Soup Creek afternoon ride? Dinner is 5:00-6:00 PM, with good food, drinks, and plenty of time to share trail stories from the day.
