This is a MAJOR appreciation post to my boxing coach Tricia and the that has been built in this space.
A lot of accountability and self awareness work has gone in and out these doors. I had the opportunity to be a boxing coach and learn the ropes of what goes on behind the scenes to be and build a successful and substantive space. I was lucky enough to experience it in a boxing gym, which for me boxing has been a “passion” since I could remember watching Tyson vs Lewis in my uncles living room (I remember it because we watched it on those big ass box big screen TVs that had the speaker built into the base of the screen). It got stronger when the homie came through with some 5 de Mayo gloves and had to get down in the back yards on a trampoline - I was probably like 10 or 12.
Back in the day I didn’t know or understand the sequencing and timing things needed to go through to make them come into fruition. However witnessing this space develop and taking the necessary steps to step inside the ring with progress always in mind taught me many lessons. You lose when you quit, not when you take hits. Boxing is about accepting that you’ll get hit, but can you commit to what you said you were going to do. Each day is an opportunity to get a bit closer to it.
Coach Tricia, I thank you very much for being a leader 🥊✊🏽. And to EVERYONE that punched me in the face, took one of my punches, or took on the experiments on tried with you - THANK YOU. And as you already know 🥊🥊🥊🥊
