Week Two - Before Jasper, there used to be Sebastian Hills - 36 weeks to opening day
Designed as a rural destination links-style course, Sebastian Hills was built with big ambitions. Featuring six miles of concrete cart paths and greens constructed to USGA specifications, the course opened at a time when the Tiger Woods era was fueling a surge in golf’s popularity.
The timing seemed perfect.
But over the years, economic headwinds—including the uncertainty surrounding Y2K and, later, the 2008 housing and stock market crash—created one challenge after another.
Despite the promise it was built with, too many bumps in the road eventually took their toll. What began as an ambitious destination golf course slowly faded, ultimately closing after the 2017 season.
But that wasn’t the end of the story.

On September 4th, 2021, we didn’t have a name or much less any experience in the golf management industry. What we did have was a vision, determination, and a community that wanted to see this golf club come back to life.

Sebastian Hills had been for sale since 2015 and closed at the end of the 2017 season. With no buyer, the course sat empty for years as nature slowly took over.

Until September 2021. That’s when the comeback began.

Over the next 37 weeks, we’re going back to where it all started and sharing the story of how an abandoned golf course became the home for Jasper Hills Golf Club and Jasper Kitchen + Bar.

37 weeks until opening day.
