On the morning of November 17, 2025, Virginia Department of Corrections Officer Jeremy Lewis Hall was brutally assaulted by an inmate at the River North Correctional Center in Independence, Virginia. The attack was described as callous and unprovoked. Two additional corrections officers were injured during the incident. Officer Hall was rushed to the hospital but tragically did not survive his wounds. He died a hero, protecting his fellow officers and staff.
40-year old Corrections Officer Jeremy Hall had been a member of the VA Dept. of Corrections for a year and half, and leaves behind his devoted wife Dawn and daughter Amaya.
Jeremy was loved by all and gave love just as freely. He approached life in a way few people can, never seeking praise for simply doing his job. No matter the circumstances, he carried a smile that made those around him feel safe. He laughed often and inspired laughter in others. Jeremy moved through life with the steady belief that everything would be okay. He lived by the same motto in his daily life as he did in his work as a Corrections Officer: firm, fair, and consistent.
