Mark June 5th 2027 on your calendar for the Classic "Old Dominion" It is more than just four marathons run back to back.

The Old Dominion 100 Mile Endurance Run is more than just a race. It is more than an event in the yearly schedule. It is the Old Dominion. What does that mean? The Old Dominion stands for tradition - the tradition of each individual against a difficult course, hot and humid weather and the 24 hour time limit for the silver buckle.It is the people that have run it in the past and will run it in the

future. And it is the people that help with the race every year. Course open for 28 hours. The Old Dominion One Day 100 Mile Cross Country Run was founded by Pat & Wayne Botts in 1979. With 45 starts that first year and the only measured 100 mile course at the time, 17 men and 1 woman made 100 mile one day history that first year in under 24 hours. Officially the first to run 100 miles in a day.The winner that year, Peter Monahan. The Old Dominion 100 first started as a 100 mile One Day horse race in 1974. Pat And Wayne Botts both competed and finished sub-24 that first horse race. It was 1978 and Pat Botts traveled with a group of friends to support 5 horses, one of which belonged to her, that were to compete in the Western States 100 mile horse race. Out west Pat was introduced to Wendell Robie, the founder of that event and credited with starting it all. He encouraged Pat with the idea of a similar run on the East Coast since the Old Dominion Ride had the only other course of this kind at the time. (It was later reported that Western States was 86-89 miles at that time.)
