Meet Our New General Manager: Doug Friess ⛳
We’re excited to welcome Doug Friess to Village Greens of Woodridge as he steps in to lead our team and serve our golf community. Get to know Doug a little better below 👇
How did you first get into golf (or the golf industry)?
“I remember picking up one of my dad’s clubs—we were both left-handed, but he had right-handed clubs, so I wasn’t sure I could even do it since I played baseball lefty. I made a few swings and it felt natural. I was in love with the game right away. When I was around 12 or 13, I picked up baskets at my local driving range for free range balls. That’s where my love of the business started.”
What’s one trend in golf you’re excited about right now?
“Technology is amazing now, especially with indoor golf and new ways to get people involved—particularly in the winter. Back in the day, new players usually only came if a golfer brought them along. Today, golf is everywhere and continues to keep people engaged in the sport.”
What excites you most about leading the team at Village Greens of Woodridge?
“I’m excited to bring my knowledge and love for the game and the business to everyone here. Passion, care, and love are key—without those, businesses and teams don’t succeed.”
How do you plan to stay connected with golfers, guests, and the community?
“Golf is such a multi-generational game. We want to keep everyone around us engaged in playing here at Village Greens. Our goal is to be a facility where everyone can come together and enjoy a round.”
What does an exceptional guest experience look like to you?
“A friendly smile and a hello go a long way. We want everyone to feel important and respected. When you accomplish those small things, they add up to a truly memorable experience.”
