Last season was the first year in history that Illinois ran out of either s*x permits for archery. We highly recommend you purchasing before arriving this year, especially if you're coming late season!

Illinois hunters harvested a preliminary record total of 20,821 wild turkeys during the 2026 spring turkey season, surpassing the previous record of 18,189 birds harvested in 2025.

The top counties for turkey harvest during the 2026 season were Jefferson and Jo Daviess counties, tied with 646 birds harvested; followed by Marion, 530; Pike, 525; and Wayne, 464.

This year, hunters purchased 94,704 permits compared to 89,580 last year. This year’s total included a record youth spring turkey season harvest of 2,326 birds compared to 2,099 birds in 2025.

A total of 70,158 individual hunters purchased permits for the 2026 spring turkey season. Preliminary figures indicate approximately 22% of permits sold were filled this year, compared to 20.3% last year.

Last call on firearm hunters who are not Illinois residents to come here and hunt this fall. Tomorrow is the day you need to apply for permits. If you do not apply, you cannot come here and hunt during any of the firearm seasons next fall and winter.

Today concluded our turkey season. While 2 out of 4 hunters were successful, everyone had a great time and saw a bunch of birds on almost every sit. This morning I saw 4 big long beards while hunting and another one the way home..so plenty of seeds for next years hunts! December comes lottery for tags, and next march cant come soon enough! .

If you want to firearm.hunt deer here this fall or late winter season, and you are not an Illinois resident, your application date is approaching in 2 weeks. You must apply online then. Or you will not get a chance at permits, period...
