Player of the game goes to our 2 seniors today against Trico in regional semi finals. These girls played their hearts out today and it showed. They have been a wonderful representation of our program the last 4 years. Even though it’s time for them to fly from the nest, they will do bigger and better things. Once a Cardinal, always a Cardinal 💪🏻🥎❤️🤍💙

Woodlawn Varsity Cardinals Come Up Short Against Trico Varsity Pioneers

Woodlawn Varsity Cardinals lost to Trico Varsity Pioneers 4-2 on Wednesday.

Trico Varsity Pioneers were the first to get on the board in the first when Jaelyn Kranawetter singled, scoring one run.

Trico Varsity Pioneers added one run in the third. Molly Rathert walked, making the score 2-0.

Woodlawn Varsity Cardinals tied the game in the top of the fourth thanks to a sacrifice bunt by Jacie Kehrer, and a ground out by Hannah Mckinney.

In the bottom of the fourth, Trico Varsity Pioneers broke up the tie when Jayci Casten tripled, scoring one run. Then a single by Kranawetter followed to extend the lead to 4-2.

Zoe Bennett earned the win for Trico Varsity Pioneers. The starter allowed three hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking two. Mckinney pitched four innings in relief for Woodlawn Varsity Cardinals. The reliever surrendered six hits and three runs while, striking out three and walking three. Alyssa Roddy took the loss for Woodlawn Varsity Cardinals. The right-handed pitcher went two innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out none and walking two.

Mckinney and Kehrer were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Woodlawn Varsity Cardinals. Mckinney, McKayla Owens, and McKenley Owens each collected one hit for Woodlawn Varsity Cardinals. Andrea Kibler stole two bases. Woodlawn Varsity Cardinals turned one double play in the game. Woodlawn Varsity Cardinals didn't commit a single error in the field. Avery England had the most chances in the field with five.

Kranawetter drove the middle of the lineup, leading Trico Varsity Pioneers with two runs batted in. The number three hitter went 3-for-4 on the day. Aubrey Cotter and Hayleigh Franklin each collected multiple hits for Trico Varsity Pioneers. Emma Williams stole two bases. Trico Varsity Pioneers had patience at the plate, tallying five walks for the game. Trico Varsity Pioneers ran wild on the base paths, accumulating four stolen bases for the game. Trico Varsity Pioneers turned one double play in the game.

Woodlawn Varsity Cardinals Stymied By Goreville

Woodlawn Varsity Cardinals couldn't keep up with Goreville and fell 12-2 on Friday.

A home run to left field by Maggie Clutts put Goreville on the board in the bottom of the first.

Goreville added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Addyson (Addy) Underwood doubled down the right field line, and Ellie Tripp grounded out, each scoring one run.

Kynlee Bryan homered to center field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth for the Goreville.

Tripp hit a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the fifth for the Goreville.

Goreville scored five runs on six hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Bryan singled, scoring one run, Olivia Shepard singled, scoring two runs, Lydia Kwiatkowski scored after tagging up, and Hannah Trainor singled, scoring one run.

Bryan earned the win for Goreville. The hurler gave up nine hits and two runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking three. Rylee Pryor took the loss for Woodlawn Varsity Cardinals. The starter went three and one-third innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, striking out none and walking two.

McKayla Owens led Woodlawn Varsity Cardinals with one run batted in. The first baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Avery England led Woodlawn Varsity Cardinals with three hits in three at bats. Andrea Kibler stole two bases.

Goreville amassed 14 hits in the game. Bryan led Goreville with three runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The pitcher went 3-for-3 on the day. Elisabeth Trainor, Shepard, Clutts, and Trainor each collected multiple hits for Goreville. Goreville turned one double play in the game.

Woodlawn Varsity Cardinals will travel to Trico Varsity Pioneers for their next game on Wednesday.
