Today was all about celebrating family, both on and off the mat! We had an amazing time at Ferns Park with our Vitality Martial Arts family—sharing food, celebrating those hard-earned medals, and just enjoying each other’s company. Thank you to all the students and families who make our community so special. We’re proud of every one of you!

This past weekend at the UMKS Regional Martial Arts Invitational in Woodside, California, we want to first extend our sincere congratulations to all of our competitors.

Stepping onto the mat takes courage. Preparing for competition takes discipline. Performing under pressure takes character. Regardless of placement, every student who competed represented themselves, their families, and our school with pride. We are grateful for your effort, your attitude, and your willingness to challenge yourselves and grow.

We would also like to recognize three students who achieved something truly special.

Out of all the competitors, only 10 competitors were invited back to compete in the elite Tournament Champion division. In this final round, each competitor selected the form they felt best represented their abilities—open hand or weapons—and performed at an exceptional level.

We are incredibly proud to spotlight:

1st Dahn 13–14 (Male) Grand Champion – 34 points
(Vitality Martial Arts) – JKN Kheann Yip

1st Dahn 13–15 (Female) Grand Champiom – 36 points
(Vitality Martial Arts) – JKN Elisha Hizon

1st Dahn 30+ (Female) Champion – 42 points
(Vitality Martial Arts) – JKN Danielle Starkweather

To be invited into this division is an honor. To step onto that floor and perform among the best is a reflection of years of dedication, perseverance, and heart.

We are proud of all of our students, and we celebrate these three for representing at the highest level.
Keep striving. Keep growing. The future is yours.

Our Vitality Martial Arts family is coming together to support one of our own.

Many of you may remember Lyndsi, a former student who trained with us here at Vitality (back when we were K*k Sool Won of Woodland). She is currently going through an incredibly difficult time after the passing of her mother, Candyce.

We are sharing this fundraiser to help support Lyndsi with funeral expenses and to honor the life of her mother. If you are able, we ask that you please consider donating. If not, simply sharing this post can make a meaningful difference.

At Vitality Martial Arts, we believe in community, support, and standing by one another—especially in times of need. Let’s come together to show Lyndsi that she is not alone.

Thank you for your support.

Dear students and families, as you plan for the tournament at Woodside High School, please be aware that a section of I-80 in San Francisco will be closed from Friday, April 17th at 11 PM through the weekend. To avoid delays, consider taking I-880 to CA-92 (San Mateo Bridge) to bypass San Francisco. We recommend adding 60 minutes to your travel time and aiming to arrive about an hour earlier than planned. For more details, visit: https://share.google/uYsS5G8FJxeISu4H4 Safe travels, and we look forward to seeing you at the event!

What you see on tournament day is only part of the story.

What you don’t see is the preparation…
The conversations…
The commitment to doing things the right way.

Our team showed up, leaned in, and got better—together.
That’s leadership. That’s culture. That's Vitality Martial Arts! That’s Mirae K*k Sool!

So much truth packed in this one post. Failure doesn’t break a child — it builds them.
It’s not the belt they earn or the test they pass that defines them. It’s what they do in the moment it doesn’t go their way. When they feel disappointed, discouraged, and unsure… and choose to come back anyway.
That’s where real growth happens.
That’s where resilience is built, confidence is earned, and character is shaped.
The victory isn’t in passing.
The victory is in returning.

She cried in the car on the way home. She'd failed her grading. Not by much. But enough.
She'd worked for it. Practiced. Cared about it. And it hadn't gone the way she wanted.

Her mum texted us that night. "She's devastated. I don't know if she'll want to come back."

We've seen this moment a hundred times. It's the moment that matters more than any other. Not the gradings they pass. Not the belts they earn. Not the trophies on the shelf.

This moment. Right here.
Because how a child learns to handle failure at 9 years old quietly shapes who they become at 19, 29 and 39.
The ones who are coached through it — who are shown that falling short isn't the end, it's just the middle of the story — they build something most adults spend years trying to find.

Mental toughness. Emotional resilience. The ability to try again.

She came back the following week. Quieter than usual. A bit nervous.
But she came back.
And six weeks later, she graded again. Nailed it. The kind of proud that sits in your chest for days.

But here's the truth — the belt wasn't the win.
Coming back was.

🌟 April Focus: LEADERSHIP 🌟

As parents, we all want our children to be confident, kind, and able to make good choices—especially when we’re not right there with them.

That’s exactly what we focus on this month at Vitality Martial Arts.

Through our classes, we actively help your child develop leadership skills like:
✔️ Listening and following directions
✔️ Using kind words and encouraging others
✔️ Staying focused and in control
✔️ Trying their best—even when things are challenging
✔️ Helping others and being a positive example

The goal isn’t just better behavior in class—it’s helping your child:
✅ Build confidence
✅ Make better decisions
✅ Handle challenges without giving up
✅ Show respect at home, at school, and in everyday life

💛 To support you at home, we’re also providing Leadership-themed coloring sheets. These give you a simple way to reinforce what they’re learning and start meaningful conversations like:
👉 “What does being a leader look like today?”
👉 “How did you help someone?”

We’re here to partner with you in raising strong, confident, respectful kids—and leadership is a big part of that journey.

If you ever have questions about what your child is working on or how to reinforce it at home, we’re always happy to help.

Always Grateful,
Your Vitality Martial Arts Family 🥋
