True PNW hammer session with these sasquatch throwers. Aiden is focused on finding the path of the ball. He has been struggling with his postural intergrity through phases of the throw. During our first 2 sessions Aiden was leaning forward and turning on a straight left leg, all due to the path of the ball..can you guess where the ball was in relation to the squatch circle? Ella is working to use the right side of the body to move the ball past the left side. During Ella's first sessions I saw the ball dragging behind from the high point and she in TURN was pulling the ball around the left. What does the ball do as it passes the left side? Where is it in relation to body? Post your thoughts and ideas in comments below. Share out to throws enthusiast groups and Follow us on Instagram

🤔 Drills build skills! Some recent work with a few discus athletes...⁣⁣
⁣⁣
1st video: working halftime-turns/wheels with an emphasis on landing in a good power, then finishing with full extension. Worked a lot on emphasizing his axis of rotation, as well as maintains separation throughout the movement. Kept the PVC on to keep his orbit steady without taking attention away from his lower body. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
2nd video: emphasized working the ground in his power and initiating the throw by positioning his hips towards the throw before the upper body comes through. Used band on PVC to restrict upper body from losing separation, around knees to promote faster block foot placement and keep the legs working together. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
3rd video: focused on the athlete’s rotational ability in the power, varying depth to increase speed and balance. Put the PVC on and had him finish with vertical extension to feel the connection between his lower/upper body. Also worked on weight distribution/transition between the power leg and block leg. Started blending the rotation and linear movements.⁣⁣
⁣⁣

💣 Big congrats to Max Shethar starting off 2020 with an impressive PR of 57’11” at the Super Throwers meet yesterday. Max had a PR of 48’2” last season...⁣⁣
⁣⁣
🏋️ Max transitioned from glide to rotational on his own and has put in more work in the off season than we’ve ever seen from a high school thrower. He throws on his own almost daily; 💨 🌧 or ☀️ !⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
🏅 We believe Max could not only break 60’ this season he has the potential to be one of the top 10 best shot putters in WA state history. The hard work has already paid off and we’re glad we’ve had the opportunity to work with him. ⁣⁣

🙌 New Sasquatch Throws Club athlete made huge strides in her first time practicing rotational shot. We were impressed at how cerebral of an athlete she is and we look forward to sharing more progress of her transition to rotation AND learning the hammer!

.throws first couple practices with Sasquatch Throws Club. We anticipate big throws from Max and can’t wait to post more throws from him!

Throws community/fans/coaches: being a first time rotator in the shot, our focus with Max has primarily been on his entry from the back of the ring. We’re working on getting his sweep leg ahead and not leaning/falling out of the back. The goal is to see him getting the R foot down sooner and catching more separation in his power - as well as rotating through block.

Any suggestions? Comments? Critiques?

Both Max and us coaches will 100% consider and practice any helpful tips.

Thank you! And if you’re in the King County area and want to throw with us, check out our website (link in bio).

Finally! Throwing and coaching during the winter season is happening. We’re able to make technical corrections 2+ months before spring season instead of 2+ months into spring season. Can’t wait to see how Sasquatch Throws Club throwers compete in upcoming indoor meets!
