I don’t know who needs to hear this, but please: consecrate your workout time to yourself.
This is a sacred practice. Your body encounters hundreds of pounds of resistance every day without you realizing it; every time you take a step, every moment you steady yourself.
Invest in time under tension.
Talk to your joints like they’re skittish horses who’ve seen too much, been broken by too many thoughtless hands. Let them know they’re safe against hundreds of pounds of resistance.
Because our nervous systems don’t get stronger by being too tentatively handled. The horses can tell when you’re scared.
Load isn’t dangerous. Your fear of it is.
Keep talking softly to yourself, and hold yourself firmly when things feel like they’re going to fall apart.
Remember that you are built to withstand the weight of yourself under atmospheric pressure. You’re so much stronger than you realize.
