42 years ago today “The Last Battle of Atlanta” took place inside the Omni in Atlanta, Georgia as Tommy Wildfire Rich and “Mad Dog” Buzz Sawyer finally settled one of wrestling’s most intense and violent rivalries.
Their brutal feud had raged for nearly two years but it all came to an end in a fully enclosed steel cage, with no way in or out. Rich took home the victory on this night.

This showdown was lost for decades, unseen by fans until WWE unearthed and released the footage in 2016. The match is often thought of as the precursor for WWE’s Hell in a Cell concept.
