2024 Illinois PGA Special Awards!
Congratulations to Ed Stevenson, PGA, Executive Director of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, on winning the 2024 Illinois PGA Executive of the Year!
Since becoming General Manager in 2011, Stevenson has transformed The Preserve at Oak Meadows, Maple Meadows, and Green Meadows into multi-functional assets that align with the District’s conservation mission. Faced with aging infrastructure, chronic flooding, and financial struggles, he redefined the properties as “golf preserves”, emphasizing their ecological and recreational value.
His leadership spearheaded a groundbreaking renovation of The Preserve at Oak Meadows, integrating stormwater management, ecological restoration, and world-class golf amenities. This innovative project earned prestigious awards, including:
🏆 Golf Digest’s “Green Star” Award (2017)
🏆 Golf Inc.’s “Renovation of the Year” (2018)
🏆 Chicago Wilderness “Force of Nature” Award
🏆 Golf Inc.’s “Clubhouse of the Year” (2022)
Stevenson’s vision extends beyond environmental sustainability—his strategic initiatives have also ensured financial stability, paving the way for future projects, including the full renovation of Maple Meadows.
Promoted to Executive Director in 2016, Stevenson has successfully balanced this role with Director of Golf responsibilities, guiding the district through challenges like the pandemic, while continuing to host prestigious events such as the Illinois Senior Open, Illinois Open qualifiers, and Drive, Chip & Putt competitions.
Beyond his executive duties, Stevenson remains deeply involved with the PGA, serving on the Illinois PGA Player Engagement Committee and Finance Committee, and regularly hosting Illinois PGA programs and events.
The Illinois PGA Executive of the Year Award recognizes PGA Professionals for outstanding leadership, vision, and service to the industry. Stevenson’s courage, innovation, and dedication make him a model PGA Professional and leader in the golf community.
Congratulations, Ed!
