Before you complain about trail conditions or the decision on when to open/ close trails please remember:

✔️Volunteers put up every sign
✔️Volunteers talk to every landowner for permission, and reroute when landowners say no
✔️Volunteers are out grooming and panning
✔️Volunteers brush trails

Join a club and volunteer your time. Get involved. We need your help to continue to maintain these trails.

Don’t forget to respect, support and thank your club volunteers and landowners.

 We hope you all had a chance to ride the trails but as of midnight tonight December 15/16 the trails of McHenry County will be closed. With the warm weather coming we’re closing them. We wish everybody a very happy holiday season and Think Snow!

"Tentatively, McHenry County Snowmobile trails will open on Friday, December 12th at 9 am . The intent is to allow the snowpack to firm back up after the warm temps and mixed precipitation over the next few days. Please monitor our page for further updates to this plan.

All Illinois residents aged 12–16, or those without a valid driver’s license, must complete a Snowmobile Safety Course before riding. These classes are free and open to the public.

From our County Trail Boss:

“TRAILS ARE OPEN AT THIS TIME

The trails are in poor condition, so please expect early-season riding conditions.

Keep an eye out for groomers as you ride.

A big thank you to our generous landowners for allowing us to enjoy the privilege of trails.”

Side note: Please ride slow and under control with no base established! Plow fields will be a challenge. Good news a lot of good drifting has been taking place. A lot of good areas to ride too!

🚨 Important Update: Radar Run Canceled 🚨

Due to unsafe ice conditions, we regret to inform everyone that we are canceling this year’s Radar Run. Your safety is our top priority, and unfortunately, the ice isn’t thick enough to hold the event safely.

We’re just as disappointed as you are, but we hope to be back next year. Thanks for your understanding and stay safe out there. ❄️
