How things change. I remember when Tuesday night hockey started, but I believe it was a Wednesday night we skated. Greg Bowen organized it and the rink was excited to have a regular group skating every week. As the years passed by Eric Piper and then Victor Druin ran it till it was passed onto me. In the later years my brother Paul (Hippo) helped and for a good many years it was a great time with some pretty great people. But as more groups moved in and demanded time slots our hockey group that started back when the rink was built slowly was pushed to different nights and later times, causing many players to drop out due to the late hour. Last year my brother and I decided to cancel Tuesday hockey since almost half our Tuesday nights were taken by, well, other new groups. It's great that the rink is doing so well they can afford to force the smaller one night a week groups out of their scheduling. Some of the guys played in Conway and Laconia last year, nice that those rinks welcome them. We have had a group skating at Pop Whalen for 30 years or so, and have always paid the highest dollar amount than any other group that has ever skated there. There...I was asked to write and post something here so there it is. Looking forward to lacing up the skate this year...just gonna be playing with a different group. Hockey - love the game, hate the politics.
