Nick Playing Fields & Facilities Update

The Nick playing fields and bathrooms will remain closed until weather and field conditions allow for a safe opening. Early spring turf is fragile, and we want to give the grass time to fully thaw, dry, and strengthen after winter.

As tempting as it is to get out on the fields, we kindly ask that they not be used until we officially open them. Waiting helps protect the turf so everyone can enjoy a long season of healthy playing surfaces.

Good news: As long as the track is clear of snow, it is open and available for community use.

Nick is Growing — and We’re Opening This Fall!
We’re excited to share that construction of our new indoor recreation facility in Wolfeboro is well underway, and we’re on track to open this fall!
For 20 years, The Nick has proudly served the Lakes Region and surrounding towns, providing playing fields, a track, a playground, a dog park, walking paths, and space for picnics and birthday parties — but only for seven months of the year. That’s about to change.
Our new indoor facility, located at our current outdoor park, will allow us to serve the community year-round with space for basketball, volleyball, pickleball, tennis, indoor field sports, walking track, and more. This expansion means more access, more opportunity, and more connection for people of all ages and abilities — regardless of the season.
As a privately funded nonprofit, The Nick receives no taxpayer funding and relies entirely on the generosity of our community. While we’ve made incredible progress, we are still raising the final funds to bring this vision fully to life and ensure we open strong this fall.
Together, we are building something truly special for Wolfeboro and the Lakes Region.

NEED ASSISTANCE FOR SPORTS? We don't want any child who wishes to play sports to be left out! Thanks to our Vanderheiden Youth Access Program (YAP), they won't be!
If you need partial or full assistance to pay for your child's sport (held at The Nick — see list below) and/or the equipment needed, please fill out an application form. We handle every single application with privacy and care.
Don't think you'll qualify based on the Income Eligibility Guidelines? We know there are extenuating circumstances that come and go, and you still might need assistance. If this is the case, STILL complete an application!
Our goal is simple: To remove barriers to access and get kids on the field!

Mother Nature is giving us a window of opportunity, and we aren’t sure how long it will last. It’s definitely chilly and windy out there, but the sun is finally shining!

We would be remiss to not highlight our incredible team member, Steve Webster! We are incredibly privileged to have Steve on our team as our volunteer Clerk of the Works!

Steve brings a wealth of knowledge and a remarkable resume of local projects to our latest mission: overseeing the construction of our new indoor facility. As the Executive Vice President of Dutton & Garfield, Inc., Steve carries over 48 years of experience in commercial and industrial design/build construction. A graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology and a second-generation Butler Builder, he is a true titan in the industry!

This is how The Nick was built- by people willing to step up and do what it took to turn a sand pit into what we treasure today. Now, Steve is giving back in-kind with a true giving heart to help grow this vital community resource. When he isn’t racing cars, skiing, or boating, he’s dedicating his world-class expertise to ensure our community has the very best.

It is truly a community effort, and we are so thankful to everyone who has contributed in so many different ways!

Building the future, one beam at a time! 🏗️Our new indoor facility at The Nick is taking shape, and it's amazing to watch the progress in hyper-speed. From clouds zipping by to the incredible work on the roof, every step is bringing us closer to a year-round hub for our community! We can't wait to play indoors!

🐾❄️ A Warm Thank You to Dr. Peter Gray!

We’re excited to share that a new wind shelter has been installed at The Nick to help keep dog owners warm and comfortable during the winter months while their pups play 🐕

This wonderful addition was made possible thanks to the incredible generosity of Dr. Peter Gray. Peter’s donation is already making a difference, and we’re so grateful for his kindness and commitment to our community.

It’s support like this that allows us to keep growing and improving The Nick, making it a place that’s welcoming, comfortable, and enjoyable for everyone- two-legged and four-legged alike ❤️
