🥎 CONNECTICUT TRAVEL SOFTBALL TRYOUT PLEDGE DISCUSSION 🥎
My name is Chuck Cammarata, Director of the WCT Eagles. I’ve been involved in Connecticut travel softball for more than 15 years as a coach, organization director, and tournament director.
Like many of you, I’ve watched travel softball tryout dates move earlier and earlier every year. After reading the discussion started by Maddie DeRita, it’s clear that many coaches, directors, parents, and players share the same concern.
So rather than simply talking about the problem, I’d like to ask a question:
Would Connecticut travel softball organizations be interested in exploring a common annual tryout start date?
Not a governing body.
Not a league.
Not a sanctioning organization.
Just a discussion among organizations to see if there is enough common ground to create a voluntary commitment that benefits players, families, coaches, and organizations across the state.
The Connecticut Monarchs have already expressed support for continuing the conversation.
If it doesn’t work, we’re no worse off than we are today.
If it does work, it could help reduce pressure on families and allow players to focus on the season they’re currently playing.
I’d love to hear thoughts from coaches, directors, organizations, parents, and players.
