🐟❤️ Three Generations, One Unforgettable Day ❤️🐟

Some of the best days on the water aren’t measured by the number of fish you catch… they’re measured by the smiles, the stories, and the memories you make together.

Today, Mike Prochaska, his kids, and grandkids shared one of those special days on Basswood Lake, bringing home 41 walleye and a bonus crappie. But if you ask us, the real catch was a day spent together as a family.

There’s something special about watching the next generation learn to bait a hook, reel in a fish, and share in the excitement that only a Northwoods fishing trip can bring.

Thank you, Mike and family, for letting us be a small part of your adventure. These are the moments that make Ely and Basswood Lake so special.

🦆❤️ A little wildlife rescue at Packsack Canoe Trips & Log Cabins!

One of our resident mama ducks was leading her ducklings to the water this week after they made the leap from one of our duck houses. Most of the little ones knew exactly where to go… but two got a bit confused along the way.

Thankfully, our crew was nearby to lend a hand and help reunite them with their family. Before long, they were safely back with mama and headed out onto the lake. 🐥🌊

Moments like these are just part of life in Ely, Minnesota. From loons and eagles to ducks and deer, you never know what kind of Northwoods wildlife experience you’ll find while staying with us.

🎣 **Important Minnesota Fishing License Update** 🎣

The Minnesota DNR is transitioning to a new electronic licensing system. As a result, **no Minnesota fishing or hunting licenses will be sold from June 2–June 8, 2026.** During this period, anglers may fish without a license, but all seasons, regulations, and bag limits remain in effect.

Please see the attached Minnesota DNR notice for complete details.

We also want to let our guests know that **Packsack Canoe Trips & Log Cabins will not be selling Minnesota fishing licenses for the remainder of the 2026 season.**

The DNR announced and implemented this licensing system change during the operating season. Between the required training, equipment purchases, and ongoing compliance requirements, we simply have not had sufficient time to properly prepare and implement the new system. Additionally, the commission on license sales is very limited and does not offset the costs involved for a small family business like ours.

We understand this may be an inconvenience for some guests, and we appreciate your understanding. Fishing licenses can still be purchased online through the Minnesota DNR or from other authorized license vendors in the area.

We will evaluate the new system this winter and determine whether license sales will return to Packsack Canoe Trips & Log Cabins for the 2027 season.

🇺🇸 Memorial Day Sunrise on Fall Lake 🇺🇸

A peaceful Northwoods sunrise to close out Memorial Weekend.

Today we remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedom. Their courage will never be forgotten.

Cold winds, snow, rough water — and still some great catches hit the dock this opening weekend at Packsack Canoe Trips & Log Cabins. That’s Minnesota fishing for you. The folks willing to tough it out usually have the best stories to bring home.
