Well, March keeps on trying to make it happen, but that's a wrap on the 2025-2026 grooming season here at Methow Trails! What a year! We had an amazing early start at Washington Pass, a just-in-time opening in mid December on the valley floor, historic flooding, 5 years worth of downed trees in two weeks, nary a lick of fresh snow for most of January, and somehow, despite it all, some excellent skiing throughout (most of) the system for 91 days (116 if you count Washington Pass grooming). We are so grateful to the support of our incredible community of landowners, pass holders, sponsors, volunteers, groomers, agency partners, donors, and loyal trail users. We could not have made it through this winter without your support. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Now, on to the spring to-do list! Treadwork, bridge repair, trailhead improvements, downed trees, equipment repair, oh my...! Well, maybe a day off first.

Winter made a surprise encore last night, and we were waiting in the wings to take advantage of the freshies. Rendezvous is in great shape today and Sun Mountain and Rendezvous should be skiing well tomorrow. Keep an eye on the grooming report for conditions updates and we will see you on the trails! It ain't over 'til it's over!

Well, it wasn't the race we planned, but the 2026 "Pivot Around the Sun" was such a lovely reminder of why this community is so great. Methow skiers sure know how to have fun and it was such a joy to be a part of this special event. Thank you to everyone who came out and enjoyed the trails with us, to our amazing volunteers, our sponsors, and our community partners who made the after-party so special. We are certain that 2027 will deliver the goods for the proper race, but this year was pretty fun too.

An update for our larger community: Due to low snow conditions on critical sections of the course and the forecast for the week, we’ve made the hard decision to cancel the race portion of the 2026 Ski to the Sun. We’ve pivoted from a timed race to a series of dispersed, untimed community skis with aid stations and a fun apres-ski party in Winthrop. We are beyond disappointed, but the safety of our participants is our priority. There is still plenty of good skiing to be had, but not quite in the right areas or with enough depth to host a 600-person event. You can check out our event page for details. Join us Friday 1/30 for a day of NO COST trail access. No trail passes are required on any of the Methow Trails on Friday, January 30th. We will be serving up free cocoa and cookies on the trails at the Methow Trails HQ in Winthrop (21 Horizon Flat Rd) from 10am-noon. Visit the Backyard Ski Day event page on our website for details on how to get free rentals and lessons too. Leave the wallets at home and join us on the trails.

What a glorious sunny day for everyone favorite 6-legged race... the annual Doggie Dash brought the usual blend of fantastic costumes, thrilling races, and chaotic crashes that we all know and love so much. THANK YOU to the racers who brought their costumes, flair, and joy to the course. You all are, as DJ Paula's walk-off song highlighted, "simply the best." Big thanks to our amazing volunteers, MC Ken, and generous sponsors Winthrop Veterinary Clinic , Cascades Outdoor Store, Inc , and Methow Valley Blue Sky Real Estate for the awards and racer goodies!
