Skate DSM hopes to bring more children outside when weather warms up

SKATE PARK DEDICATION The Friends of the Winterset Area Skate Park will be hosting a dedication celebration on Sunday June 9th at the Skate Park located on Summit and South 4th Ave. Donors and the public is invited. Festivities will begin at 2 PM as skaters, scooters, BMX bikers, and inline skaters gather to skate and enjoy the park. At 3 PM the dedication will begin which will include recognition of donors, a presentation of a check from the friends to reduce the balance due the city, a free drawing for skateboards, t-shirts, balloons, beads and many other items. Ice cream bars and cookies will also be available . After the dedication talented skaters will demonstrate and explain the different moves they have mastered. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy the afternoon. SKATE TABLE AND RAMP TO BE AUCTIONED The Friends in their long promotion of getting a skate park in Winterset, purchased in 2011, a portable quarter pipe skate ramp and a skateable picnic table made out of steel. These were purchased to used for promotional purposes, but also to be incorporated in the then planned skate park. When the Friends changed to a all concrete design these items would not fit in. These are heavy duty professionally built by the American Ramp Company from Joplin Mo. The friends will auction these of to the highest bidder. The skate table and ramp will be on site during the dedication. If you would like to view them ahead of time please call Bob Kaldenberg at 462-4731. Parking is limited so please park in the elementary school parking lot just north of the park.

Upgrades done this year on the skate park.

They still have a long way to go but they have been working on this project, on and off, for well over 20 years. It's good to see they are finally getting some where. Hats off to them.

Plans have been nearly two decades in the making.
