The overhead squat is one of those movements that tells you a lot.
It asks for balance, coordination, flexibility, core control, shoulder stability, and solid squat mechanics all at once. That’s exactly why we use it as both a training tool and a way to expose where movement starts to break down.
A better overhead squat can help improve so much more than just the overhead squat itself. The positions and control you build here carry over into snatches, jerks, front squats, back squats, and even your ability to move well under load in general.
If your overhead squat feels limited, it can be a clue. Maybe it’s ankle mobility. Maybe it’s shoulder position. Maybe it’s core control or squat mechanics. Improving those pieces can help clean up a lot of other lifts too.
It’s not just about getting weight overhead. It’s about owning strong, stable positions from the ground up.
