🏔️ Helping Grand County athletes reach new heights!

The Competition Center Athlete Support Fund provides both merit- and need-based support for athletes participating in programs at the Winter Park Competition Center From developing a lifelong love of mountain sports to pursuing dreams of becoming a world-class competitor or even an Olympic champion, this fund helps athletes reach their full potential. ⛷️🏆

STARTING THIS WEEKEND! The Winter Park Competition Center All Mountain Bike Program helps younger riders build singletrack skills while giving older kids experience on Grand County trails. It’s also a great warm-up for the high school MTB season. Rides focus on endurance, fitness, technical skills, and tactics—all in a fun, safety-first environment. Participants learn preparation, basic bike maintenance, and get to explore Colorado’s mountains in summer.

Groups are organized by age and ability. Ride locations and meeting spots vary based on weather and trail conditions, with details shared weekly. The program director sends emails with ride info and a signup link so riders can choose which days to attend.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of longtime Competition Center coach Parker Thomson, who passed away on May 2, 2026.

Parker was a cornerstone of the Winter Park Competition Center family for more than 25 years. Many of you will remember him as the beloved J5 Age Class coach throughout the early 2000s, where he introduced countless young athletes to ski racing and helped spark a lifelong passion for the sport.

Beyond developing strong skiers, Parker built something even more meaningful — community. Through his leadership, teammates became lifelong friends, and families formed lasting bonds both on and off the mountain.

Parker first came to Winter Park Resort in the late 1990s as a ski school instructor before leading the J5 program for over a decade. He later coached the Adult Alpine Masters program and eventually returned to ski school, continuing to share his love of skiing with generations of Winter Park families.

Outside of coaching, Parker was a familiar and unforgettable presence around the county — often spotted in one of his signature utility kilts and always eager to talk about the latest U.S. Ski Team news.

A memorial service will be held on June 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Winter Park Christian Church. Parker’s family welcomes all whose lives he touched to attend, either in person or virtually. A link to the service will be available through the church’s website.
