LEGENDS OF POLK’S PAST: Val Proulx, OF (Softball)

A native of Winter Garden, Val Proulx spent two seasons at Polk State College. Proulx earned All-Suncoast Conference recognition each year. As a freshman in 2011, Proulx settled for honorable mention honors as Polk State won the Suncoast Conference and reached the FCSAA Gulf District final during a 40-win campaign. That season, Proulx finished second on the team with five home runs. Proulx was also named to the FCSAA All-Tournament team.

As a sophomore in 2012, Proulx had an even bigger year, earning second-team All-Suncoast recognition. That season, she hit .333. Proulx also led the Eagles with six home runs, 35 RBIs and a .443 on-base percentage.

Although she elected not to continue her college career, softball has remained a prominent part of Proulx’s life. A member of the U.S. Navy, Proulx competes in the Armed Forces Games. A key piece for the U.S. All-Naval squad, Proulx has helped the Navy win multiple Armed Forces softball titles.

Oriana Moreno finished with a hat trick on Saturday to power Polk State Soccer’s 7-1 home triumph over Pasco-Hernando State College.

LAKELAND — Coming off its first loss of the season, Polk State Soccer bounced back in a big way on Saturday. In their first home match of September, the Eagles rolled to the season sweep of Pasco-Hernando State College, 7-1.

A second-half penalty kick was the difference on Friday as Polk State Soccer dropped a heartbreaker at New College of Florida JV for its first loss of the season, 2-1.
