Salem College competes in the USA South Athletic Conference, which is a member of the NCAA Division III. Salem College was founded in 1776.

Salem College traces its history to April 1772, when the Moravian community of Salem, North Carolina, founded a school for girls and appointed Sister Elisabeth Oesterlein as its first teacher. Under the supervision of Salem’s boards and thanks to the teaching of the Single Sisters, the school flourished and provided the girls of late-eighteenth century Salem with as rigorous an education as the bo

ys of the town received. As the oldest educational institution for girls and women in America, Salem Academy and College has a proud history of fostering independence in women.

Even more impressive, every athletic program finished the semester with a GPA above 3.0!

Welcome to Salem Athletics, Eric James!

Salem Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Eric James as our new Associate Athletic Director.

Eric brings over 30 years of experience in athletics administration, coaching, facilities management, event operations, and leadership. In his role, he will oversee game day operations, athletic facilities, strength & conditioning, camps and clinics, the Booster Club, corporate sponsorships, facility rentals, and serve as the sport supervisor for Basketball and Cheerleading.
