A few thoughts on the Spring Rendezvous:
First, we had perfect weather. A few showers on Friday afternoon/evening kept the threat of a fire down. Saturday and Sunday the weather was clear – not too hot, and the bugs were at a minimum.
The kids had a great time playing ball, running around, and participating in the scheduled activities. Melvin dropped in to really make a great contribution. He brought his washboard thingy and played for us while singing some songs – the kids especially liked his show. The song about Spring Rendezvous was most apropos. He said he had three events he could attend but came down “because we are more fun.”
Marvin was not feeling well, but he brought a tray of pulled pork and accoutrements for Saturday lunch, then had to leave – JB ate most of it. Richard could not make it, so we did not have any bacon at our campfire Saturday morning..
Talking about food: Taking a stroll around the various camp sites, you could see/and smell some serious cooking. And, of course, the pitch-in meal on Saturday night was off the scale. We had our pow-wow after we ate. We discussed the joy we experience coming to the club, the camaraderie, and the good-natured competition. Dave gave everyone an historic themed button to adorn their outfit, followed by Virgil revealing it was Dave’s birthday; and yes, we sang him happy birthday.
Dan brought his mobile trap launcher, so that a few could destroy some birds Saturday afternoon. The Novelty Shoot on Sunday (Do You Feel Lucky?) was once again an experience that put the whole weekend in the record books.
Thanks to everyone who helped make the rendezvous a huge success. Several people donated prizes above and beyond the regular prizes. There were a lot of moving parts, but it all came together for a great time.
Dave has already posted some great photos and will shortly publish a newsletter with info about winners, losers, and everyone else. He is a graduate of the “Marsha Yockey School of Journalism,” and puts out a great read, which is a collector’s item.
