Looks like its waiting for ice climbing season again! Thanks for another awesome season at the WIP! Some of the best ice we've climbed and best people we've climbed with so far! The ice park is officially closed. Please stay off the ice even if you see its still there. Conditions are no longer safe for climbing with the rapid warm-up. Thanks again for an awesome year and we'll see you all again when Waiting For Ice Climbing Season ends!

The park took a pretty big hit with the warm temps and rain this past week. With that, it looks like the park is closed and in all likelihood for the year. We anticipate poor trail conditions and snow in the forecast. However Sandstone ice park still has good ice and is open!
We will post a more formal end of year wrap up soon! Thank you all and climb on!

With the predicted rain and warm temps we are asking that we don’t hike on the Sugarloaf trail during this warm up and rain. It looks like winter returns Thursday and should allow for good trail conditions. Please be a good trail steward and if its looking muddy please choose a different trail as hiking on muddy trails means our dedicated volunteers have to do a bunch of extra work to repair them and those volunteers do awesome work!

Welcome back Winter! The park is in good shape and the snow makes it look much better than it did last week.

Some top outs are a bit bare so be mindful when leading. Otherwise ice was great as of today with tons to climb. The Cave Wall Pillars are in need of some cleaning up and there's some thin pillars to be aware of, throughout the park, other than that lots of fat ice left! Feel free to knock down anything that looks precarious(***after clearing with everyone at the base) as it helps everyone stay safer at this time of year.

Trail is all snow/ice and microspikes are still helpful but not 100% needed. Git On IT!

There's been a lot of questions about the park conditions with the projected warm up this weekend. rest assured the park will be in amazing shape through it as we have farmed more ice than ever. Also the park is north facing and creates its own micro climate so the ice doesn't feel the 50 degree weather(only on top mostly). However with warm ups like this there may be increased debris melting loose from the top. If rappelling, please feel free to knock any loose ice down( after clearing with people at the base!). Temps look to drop early next week back to more normal temps. Enjoy the hero ice these next few days!!!

The park will be in All-Time shape this coming week! We have been farming through these extreme temps and the result is sick!

Ice farming is currently happening on Cave wall, Seans Wall , Low Wall, and the far end of Main Wall. The ice farming crew plans to have water off tomorrow afternoon and the entire park will then be open.
****Please watch for overhead hazards as we plan to get to all of that proactively to make the park safer for all throughout the week!

Thanks for your support and we hope to se you next week at the Winona Ice Fest!

How do Winona ice farmers stay dry, warm, and safe while spraying gallons of water in negative degree temps?

Honestly, good gear & good people!! Winona Ice Park wouldn't be here without the support from CAMP, Rab, and Rocky Talkie.

Thanks for keeping us warm, dry, and able to communicate when it’s dark, cold, and everything wants to freeze 😂

Thanks to everyone at the WIP today for climbing around where the farming crew was getting water turned on! We will be farming Hasssesfeffer wall, volunteer wall, shew buddy point and gully and hunnerd totally till Tuesday/weds. Then Cave wall, seans wall, and low wall will be turned on and the other walls will reopen! The plan is to farm the whole park by the end of next weekend! Thank you for being mindful of the black pipe that crosses the trail up top as well! Climb on!

Attention all! Tomorrow Sunday Jan 18th the ice farming team will be turning on water on Hassessfeffer, volunteer wall, and shew buddy gully areas. Please be careful of all infrastructure while hiking and climbing. Please stay off these areas as we capitalize on these amazing temperatures! We will farming in these areas for a couple of days then continuing to farm other sections to fatten up the park this week. We strive to keep most of the park open throughout the process.Thank you for supporting the park and helping it grow!

The whole park is officially open!!! Anchors are being added daily.

Red static and slings are new this year. If an anchor has two static ropes/slings, its appropriate to TR off it. Otherwise, we recommend joining two separate anchors together with your own material (static rope, webbing, etc).

All anchor points/trees that are on the far side of hiking trail will have chain going over the trail to mitigate the potential of crampons interacting with rope/slings.

More to come on WIP anchors soon!
